George Weston
George Weston (March 23, 1864 – April 6, 1924) was an American-born Canadian businessman and the founder of George Weston Limited. He became Toronto's biggest baker with Canada's largest bread factory. Weston began his career at the age of 12 as a baker's apprentice and went on to become a bread route salesman. By the turn of the century, he was known throughout the city for his "Weston’s Home-Made Bread" and years later for "Weston’s Biscuits." In addition to being a successful local businessman, he was also a prominent Methodist, as well as a municipal politician who served four years as alderman on Toronto City Council. George Thorngate Weston (21 October 1876 – 19 September 1957) was a New Zealand lawyer and cricketer. Weston was born on 21 October 1876 in Hokitika. The publisher Walter Weston (publisher), Walter Weston was his twin brother. The judge Thomas S. Weston was their father. Thomas Shailer Weston Jr. and Claude Weston were brothers, and Agnes Weston (politician), Agnes Weston was his sister-in-law. Weston received his education in Christchurch at Christ's College, Christchurch, Christ's College and University of Canterbury, Canterbury College. He graduated from the university with a bachelor of art in 1897 and a bachelor of laws in 1898. In the same year, he was admitted to the bar by Justice Edward Conolly (judge), Edward Conolly. George Frederick Weston (2 February 1925 – 25 July 2009) was an English physicist and author. He is best known for his work associated with cold cathode glow discharge devices, and has published over a dozen papers and a book dealing with the subject. In 1956, Weston took leadership of a small group of physicists, investigating cold cathode tubes, which gained a reputation as one of the foremost research units in the field. George Weston Foods is one of the largest consumer products companies in Australia. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods Plc. Its brands include Tip Top Bakeries, Tip Top and Top Taste. In 2003, Weston's biscuits were put up for sale in order to consolidate the company's product lines. The majority of Weston's sweet biscuit brands were acquired by Paradise Foods, whilst three of the brands were acquired by Arnott's Biscuits Holdings. Along with Goodman Fielder, it is one of the two main commercial bread manufacturers in Australia.
