George Austin Welsh (August 9, 1878 – October 22, 1970) was a United States representative from Pennsylvania and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Education and career Born on August 9, 1878, in Bay View, Maryland, Welsh attended the country schools and the public schools of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He took business and academic courses from Temple University and engaged as a legislative stenographer and reporter from 1895 to 1901. He received a Bachelor of Laws in 1905 from Philadelphia Law School of Temple College (now Temple University Beasley School of Law) and was admitted to the bar the same year. He entered private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1905 to 1923. He was Secretary to Mayor John Weaver of Philadelphia from 1905 to 1906. George Arthur Welsh
George Arthur Welsh DSO & Bar (28 July 1896 – 16 February 1965) was a Canadian flying ace, farmer and political figure. He represented Muskoka—Ontario in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Progressive Conservative member from 1945 to 1955. He was born in Sunderland, Ontario, the son of Art Welsh, and was educated there, in Lindsay and at the University of Toronto where he qualified as a Physical Education teacher. In 1917, he enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps and served in northeast France during World War I. He received the Belgian Croix de guerre and was credited with five "victories". On his return, he served as village postmaster and took over ownership of the family farm and mill. At the beginning of World War II, Welsh reenlisted in the Canadian Army and was put in charge of an anti-tank battery. His unit took part in the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943. George Welsh (American Football)
George Welsh (August 26, 1933 – January 2, 2019) was an American college football player and coach. He served as head football coach of the Navy Midshipmen football team of the United States Naval Academy from 1973 to 1981, and the Virginia Cavaliers football team of the University of Virginia from 1982 to 2000. Welsh retired as the winningest coach in ACC history. Although that record was later surpassed by Bobby Bowden of Florida State, Welsh remains far and away the most successful coach in UVA history (his 134 wins are more than double those of runner-up Al Groh). He was named ACC Coach of the Year four times (1983, 1984, 1991 and 1995) and National Coach of the Year once (1991). Upon Welsh's retirement after the 2000 season, his 189 career victories ranked him 24th in Division I-A history. Welsh was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2004. Having a diverse range of experiences in psychopathology and personality assessment during World War II times, he dedicated his career to developing and utilizing personality assessment tools. Biography George Schlager Welsh was born on September 24, 1918 in Kingston, Pennsylvania. His father was an architect and his mother was a homemaker; together they had four children, George and three daughters. George S. Welsh met and married Alice Mendenhall, a speech pathologist, at the University of Minnesota in 1949. They do not appear to have had any children. George Welsh Currie (1870 – 3 June 1950) was a British politician. Born in Edinburgh, he was the son of the Reverend James Currie. Following education at the University of Edinburgh he entered business as an accountant, and travelled widely in the United States, Canada and South America. He became a strong supporter of Joseph Chamberlain and in 1906 became secretary of the Scottish branch of the Tariff Reform League. When the sitting Member of Parliament for Leith Burghs, Ronald Ferguson, was appointed Governor-General of Australia in 1914, Currie was chosen by the Scottish Unionist Party to attack the seat at the resulting by-election. He gained the seat, but only by a narrow majority of 16 votes. When the next general election was held at the end of 1918, there was a redistribution of parliamentary seats under the Representation of the People Act.
