George Weir (Australian Politician)
George Weir (21 April 1903 – 4 July 1956) was an Australian barrister and politician who was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1941 to 1953. Early life Weir was born in Flemington. He was the son of George Weir, telegraphist, and Alice Ada Evans. He received his education at Burwood Public School and Parramatta High School. In 1926, he received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney. In 1920, he entered public service as a junior clerk in Crown Solicitors Office, where he remained until 1927. Weir was admitted to the bar in 1926. He transferred to Public Trustees Office as a conveyancing clerk in 1927. On 24 March 1928, he married Elsie Rose Gentle, with whom he had two sons. Rapidly rising through the ranks, he was chief clerk at the Probate Office from 1933 until 1939. George Alexander Weir
General Sir George Alexander Weir (1 December 1876 – 15 November 1951) was a British Army officer who served in the Second Boer War and the First World War. Early life George Weir was born in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, on 1 December 1876 to Dr Archibald Weir of Malvern. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1917, he married Margaret Irene, daughter of Robert More of Bexhill; the couple had a son and a daughter. Military career Weir served in South Africa between 1899 and 1901 as a non-commissioned volunteer in the Worcestershire Yeomanry and was mentioned in despatches twice and awarded four clasps to his Queen's Medal. After about six months, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and transferred into the Regular Army on 11 January 1902 as a captain on probation in the 3rd Dragoon Guards, the appointment confirmed the following year. Doddie Weir
George Wilson "Doddie" Weir (4 July 1970 – 26 November 2022) was a Scottish rugby union player who played as a lock. He made 61 international appearances for the Scotland national team and represented the British & Irish Lions. With the change to professional rugby, he was recruited to Newcastle Falcons playing 1997–2002 and he captained the club. He returned to the Borders in 2002 but retired from professional rugby in 2004. In 2016 he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND). He became involved with campaigning and fundraising, setting up a foundation named "My Name'5 Doddie" which had raised £8 million for MND research by the time that he died from this condition.
