George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. George Gilbert Swain
George Gilbert Swain (January 3, 1829 – June 1, 1918) was an American businessman and politician. Born in Halifax, Vermont, Swain moved to Delton, Wisconsin in 1855 and settled on a farm. He then worked for the Chicago and North Western Railway and was an inspector for the railroad company's fuel supplies and mines in Iowa. Swain served on the Delton Town Board and on the Sauk County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors. Swain was a Republican and was one of the presidential electors in the 1872 United States Presidential Election. While living in Sauk County, Swain served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1870, 1871, and 1872. George Fillmore Swain (2 March 1857, San Francisco, California – 1 July 1931) was a civil engineer from the United States. He was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and later at Harvard University. Biography He was graduated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1877 and then studied in Berlin, Germany, for three years. On his return to the United States, he settled in Boston. In 1887 he became professor of civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which was then located in Boston. He remained at MIT until 1909, when he became professor of civil engineering at the Harvard Graduate School of Applied Science.
