George Stern
Georges Stern (1882 – October 28, 1928), nicknamed "The King of the Derbies"and "King of the Jockeys", was a French jockey. He rode in both England and France. Stern, who was Jewish, was born in France to British parents, who were naturalized in France. In 1904, he won the Grand Prix, the French Derby (riding Ajax), the French Oaks (Profane), the Austrian Derby (Con Amore), the German Derby (Con Amore), and the Baden Baden Prix (Caius). In 1908 he won the French Derby, the Austrian Derby, and the German Derby, and finished second in the Belgian Derby. In 1898, at 17 years of age, in Colombes Stern won his first race riding Finlas, a horse owned and trained by his father. In 1900, he won the debut Grand Prix de Deauville, riding Amedee. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100-120 lb., and physically fit. They are typically self-employed and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer and a percentage of the horse's winnings. Jockeys are mainly male, though there are some well-known female jockeys too. The job has a very high risk of debilitating or life-threatening injuries. International Jewish Sports Hall Of Fame
The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ( he, יד לאיש הספורט היהודי, translit=Yad Le'ish HaSport HaYehudi) was opened July 7, 1981 in Netanya, Israel. It honors Jewish athletes and their accomplishments from anywhere around the world. It is located at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sport. It has inducted over 400 athletes and sportspersons representing 40 countries. The Hall elects new honorees each year, with submissions due December 1 for votes for the following year, and a formal induction ceremony taking place several days prior to the Maccabiah Games every four years. Sardanapale (horse)
Sardanapale (1911–1934) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed considerable talent as a juvenile, winning the Prix Yacowlef, Prix Morny and Prix de Seine-et-Oise. In the following year, he recovered from two defeats by La Farina to establish himself as the best racehorse in Europe with a string of victories which included the Prix Hocquart, Prix d'Hédouville, Prix du Jockey Club, Grand Prix de Paris, Prix de President de la Republique and Prix Eugène Adam before his racing career was ended by the outbreak of the First World War. The Prix du Jockey Club, sometimes referred to as the French Derby, is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies.
