George Stanford
George Simon Stanford (born May 8) is an American, Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter, who was signed to Mercury Records. He is a former member and lead vocalist for the band Townhall. Education Stanford is a graduate of Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, where he played trombone in his high school jazz band. Career Stanford attended University of the Arts (Philadelphia) to study music, but dropped out to play with the Philladelphia rock act, Townhall, a relationship that lasted five years (and produced one live album - 2001's ''Live at the Point'' - and two studio albums - 2003's ''New Song'' and 2005's ''American Dreams''). In 2006, Stanford moved to Los Angeles and was offered a record deal with Epic Records. He relocated to Smash/Mercury Records the following year, moved back to his native Philadelphia, and released his debut album, ''Big Drop'', in June 2008. Mercury Records
Mercury Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. It had significant success as an independent operation in the 1940s and 1950s. Smash Records and Fontana Records were sub labels of Mercury. In the United States, it is operated through Republic Records; in the United Kingdom and Japan (as Mercury Tokyo in the latter country), it is distributed by EMI Records. Since the separation of Island Records, Motown, Mercury Records, and Def Jam Recordings combining the Island Def Jam Music Group, Mercury Records has been placed under Island Records, although its back catalogue is still owned by the Island Def Jam Music Group (now Island Records). The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data.
