George Frederick Sims
George Frederick Robert Sims (3 August 1923, Hammersmith – 4 November 1999, Reading, Berkshire), also known as George Sims, was an English antiquarian bookseller and writer of crime thrillers. He was born in the Hammersmith district of London in 1923, the son of a shoe merchant. He was educated at the John Lyons School in Harrow. He married Beryl Simcock in 1943, with whom he had three children. He served in the Intelligence Corps in the final years of World War II. After the war, he started working at Len Westwood's bookshop in Harrow before setting up as a mail order bookseller under the name of G.F. Sims. In 1952, he moved to the village of Hurst in Berkshire and remained there till his death. As a writer, Sims published poetry, crime thrillers, and four volumes of memoirs. George Robert Sims
George Robert Sims (2 September 1847 – 4 September 1922) was an English journalist, poet, dramatist, novelist and ''bon vivant''. Sims began writing lively humour and satiric pieces for ''Fun'' magazine and ''The Referee'', but he was soon concentrating on social reform, particularly the plight of the poor in London's slums. A prolific journalist and writer he also produced a number of novels. Sims was also a very successful dramatist, writing numerous plays, often in collaboration, several of which had long runs and international success. He also bred bulldogs, was an avid sportsman and lived richly among a large circle of literary and artistic friends. Sims earned a fortune from his productive endeavours but had gambled most of it away by the time of his death. Biography Sims was born in Kennington, London, England. George Sims (educator)
George Francis Sims (1888–1943) was a working class educator who was one of the founders of the National Council of Labour Colleges. George started working at the age of eight, however as one of his duties as a page was reading ''The Times'' to his employer he developed a thirst for learning. In 1909, Sims was one of the students at Ruskin College who had set up an independent study circle which sought to collectively read Karl Marx's ''Das Kapital''. Sims served in the British Army from 1914 to 1919. He ended his service as a battery sergeant major in the Motor Machine Gun Corps. George Caryl Sims (May 30, 1902 – June 23, 1966), better known by his pen names Paul Cain and Peter Ruric, was an American pulp fiction author and screenwriter. He is best known for his novel ''Fast One'', which is considered to be a landmark of the pulp fiction genre and was called the "high point in the ultra hard-boiled manner" by Raymond Chandler.''Danger Is My Business: An Illustrated History of the Fabulous Pulp Magazines'', by Lee Server (Chronicle Books, 1993) (p.70). George Pollard "Gabby" Sims Jr. (born October 23, 1927) is a former American football defensive back who played for the Los Angeles Rams. He played college football at Baylor University, having previously attended Seymour High School in Seymour, Texas. He is a member of the Baylor University Athletics Hall of Fame. After enlisting in the Army, Sims played for the Army's Fort Ord Warriors from fall 1951 until he mustered out in 1953. Released by the Rams and the Army to the Dallas Texans, he ended up in camp with the Baltimore Colts in 1953.
