George Shields (politician)
George Shields (6 November 1854 – 7 May 1933) was an Australian politician. He was born in Launceston. In 1923 he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as a Nationalist member for Bass in a recount following John Hayes' election to the Senate A senate is a deliberative assembly, often the upper house or chamber of a bicameral legislature. George Oliver Shields
George Oliver Shields (26 August 1846 – 11 November 1925) who also wrote under the pseudonym Coquina was the editor of a pioneering American magazine for outdoors sports ''Recreation'' where he also took on a role as an activist for the conservation of wildlife. In a column in the magazine, he began to shame fish and game sportsmen who he deemed as not following sporting ethics. This eventually led to clashes with powerful people, resulting in his dismissal from the editorial position. Life and work Shields was born in Batavia, Ohio to Eliza J. née Dawson and John F. Shields. Educated at public school in Delaware County, Ohio, Delaware County he joined the Union Army in 1864. Wounded at Resaca, Georgia in 1864 he was discharged in July 1865. He then worked as an immigration agent, trying to get stock investors to support the Pecos Irrigation and Improvement Company at Carlsbad, New Mexico (then called Eddy). ''Allotment Wives'' is a 1945 American film noir directed by William Nigh and starring Kay Francis. Its plot is about an army investigator who tries to shut down a scam that preys on soldiers, and unknowingly falls in love with the woman behind it. Plot The Office of Dependency Benefits, O.D.B., is a U.S. government agency in charge of payment and financial support to women who have husbands serving in World War II. Even after the war, the office still handles all these issues. Colonel Pete Martin from the Army Intelligence is assigned to investigate a series of incorrect claims for support that has been discovered at the O.D.B. Among other things, there is evidence that some women have married multiple times to get more money. Pete's job is to find these fraudulent women and bring them to justice. George Shiels
George Shiels (24 June 1881 – 19 September 1949) was an Ireland, Irish dramatist whose plays were a success both in his native Ulster and at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. His most famous plays are ''The Rugged Path'', ''The Passing Day'', and ''The New Gossoon''. Biography Shiels was born to Robert Shiels and Eileen (née MacSweeney) in Ballymoney, County Antrim, and emigrated to Canada as a young man. While working on the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1913, he was involved in a serious accident that left him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He returned to Ballymoney and started a shipping company with his brother, and also began writing at this time. Starting with poems and short stories, he soon progressed to plays, which he provided to the Ulster Literary Theatre under the pen name of ''George S. Morsheils''.
