His writing has appeared in ''The New Yorker'', '' Harper's'', ''McSweeney's'', and '' GQ''. He also contributed a weekly column, ''American Psyche'', to the weekend magazine of ''The Guardian'' between 2006 and 2008. A professor at Syracuse University, Saunders won the National Magazine Award for fiction in 1994, 1996, 2000, and 2004, and second prize in the O. Henry Awards in 1997. His first story collection, ''CivilWarLand in Bad Decline'', was a finalist for the 1996 PEN/Hemingway Award. In 2006 Saunders received a MacArthur Fellowship. In 2006 he won the World Fantasy Award for his short story "CommComm". His story collection ''In Persuasion Nation'' was a finalist for the Story Prize in 2007. George Saunders (born 10 June 1989) is an English professional Association Football, footballer who plays as midfielder for Colombian club Atlético Huila. Club career Born in London, Saunders joined the academy of Arsenal F.C., Arsenal at the age of eight. He moved with his family to Spain, and was recruited by Villarreal CF, Villarreal, but was released by them, going on to join CF Torre Levante, Torre Levante and then RCD Espanyol, Espanyol. During this time he became the first British player to be called up to the Catalonia national football team. George Saunders (Royal Navy Officer)
Sir George Saunders (c. 1671–1734) of St Olave's, Hart St., London.was a Royal Navy officer, British official and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1728 to 1734. Saunders parentage is unknown. He married Anne Dartiquenave, daughter of Charles Dartiquenave, and sister of Charles Dartiquenave of St James's, Westminster, paymaster of the board of Works. Saunders was in the merchant service before joining the Royal Navy as a volunteer in 1689 on board the Portsmouth, with Captain George St Lo, and became for a short time a prisoner of war when the ship was captured in 1690. In December 1690 he joined the Ossory with Captain Tyrrell, in which he was present in the Battle of La Hougue. On 28 December 1692 he passed his examination, aged twenty-one, after serving in the navy for not quite three years. George Rideout
George Saunders Rideout (born 2 January 1945 in Moncton, New Brunswick) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1997. He was also the mayor of Moncton from 1983 to 1988. During his tenure as mayor, he laid the groundwork for Moncton's ascension as a regional hub of economic activity. The son of two former federal Members of Parliament, Sherwood Rideout and Margaret Rideout, he was a lawyer by career, in practice with Stewart & Stratton and later Rideout & Robinson. Stepping down as mayor in 1988,Edward W.
