George Riley (British Columbia Politician)
George Riley (April 2, 1843 – January 19, 1916) was a Canadians, Canadian merchant and Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal politician. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, St. Catharines, Canada West, the son of P. Riley, he was educated there and in Buffalo, New York. In 1885, Riley moved to British Columbia, becoming a merchant in Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria. He married Mary N. Balfour in 1908. He was chosen in a 1902 by-election to represent Victoria (British Columbia federal electoral district), Victoria in the House of Commons of Canada, after the election of Edward Gawler Prior was voided. He was re-elected once, serving as an MP for Victoria City (electoral district), Victoria City until 1906, when he resigned to allow William Templeman (politician), William Templeman, a Minister without Portfolio, minister in Wilfrid Laurier's government, to take his seat. George Riley (Nova Scotia Politician)
George Stuart Riley (November 18, 1922 – August 28, 2002) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Halifax Cobequid in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1974. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Riley was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. A businessman, he attended Daniel Mclntyre Collegiate and the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. In 1944, he married Margaret Jane Abraham. Riley entered provincial politics in the 1970 election, defeating Progressive Conservative incumbent Gordon H. Fitzgerald by over 1000 votes in Halifax Cobequid. On November 24, 1971, Riley was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Public Works. He resigned from cabinet on May 16, 1972. George Riley is a British sports broadcaster from Leeds. He was the co-presenter of Channel 5's Football On 5 between 2016 and 2017 alongside Lynsey Hipgrave. Career Riley joined BBC Radio 5 Live in 2004, having previously been at the short-lived TEAMtalk 252 in 2002, and has been the voice of sport on 5 Live Breakfast since 2011. He also presented 5 live Sport for the station, and commentated on rugby league, snooker and darts for BBC TV and radio, until being suspended in 2017 following several allegations of sexual harassment. George Putnam Riley (March 29, 1833 in Boston – October 1, 1905) was an African-American abolitionist in the United States. He was referred to as the " Fred Douglass of Oregon" by the ''Oregonian'' newspaper. Life and career George Putnam Riley (Geo P. Riley) was a native of Boston born on March 29, 1833. His grandfather was a participant in the Revolutionary War. Riley's father was engaged in the clothing trade in Boston. His parents, William and Elizabeth Riley, were abolitionists. When Riley was a baby, his six-year-old half-brother James Jackson Jr. died. Riley was prevented from attending college because he was black. He worked at Benjamin Butler's law office, and later as a barber. George moved to San Francisco in the historic California Gold Rush, and later moved back to Boston.
