George Pinner
George Christopher Pinner (born 18 January 1987) is an English field hockey player who plays as a goalkeeper for Old Georgians and from 2009 to 2021 played for the England and Great Britain national teams. Personal life In June 2012 he was one of seven GB hockey athletes to pose for the centerfold of Cosmopolitan magazine as part of a campaign to raise awareness of male cancers and the Everyman cancer charity. In 2017 Pinner married England hockey international Jo Hunter. Club career Pinner plays club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Old Georgians. He has also played club hockey for Ipswich, Beeston and Holcombe. On 30 May 2019 it was announced that he was joining Old Georgians ahead of their first season in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division. The men's field hockey tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics was the 22nd edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held over a thirteen-day period beginning on 30 July, and culminating with the medal finals on 11 August. The 2011 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy, officially known as the Owen G Glenn FIH Men's Champions Trophy, was the 33rd edition of the Champions Trophy men's field hockey tournament. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed India as the host country, and announced New Delhi as the host city on February 4, 2011. The tournament dates were December 3 to December 11, 2011. However, on September 6, 2011, the FIH announced that India would no longer host the tournament due to a governance issue, and announced Auckland, New Zealand as the new host on September 13, 2011 with the same time schedule. The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organized by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Joanne Hunter (born 27 May 1991) is an English field hockey player who plays as a forward for Buckingham and the England and Great Britain national teams. In 2017 she married England hockey goalkeeper George Pinner. Club career Hunter plays club hockey in the Women's England Hockey League Premier Division for Buckingham. The England women's national field hockey team are the current Commonwealth Games champions having previously won silver 3 times. England have also won the 2006 Women's Field Hockey World Cup Qualifier and the 2002 Champions Challenge. History Marjorie Pollard played hockey nearly every year for England from 1921 to 1937. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event.
