George Parker (MP)
George Parker (c. 1619 – 12 July 1673) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1659 and 1660. Parker was the eldest surviving son of Sir Thomas Parker of Ratton, Sussex and his wife Philadelphia Lennard, daughter of Henry Lennard, 12th Baron Dacre and Chrysogona Baker. He matriculated at St Alban's Hall, Oxford on 1 December 1637, aged 18 and entered Lincoln's Inn The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn is one of the four Inns of Court in London to which barristers of England and Wales belong and where they are called to the Bar. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. Sir Thomas Dyke (10 December 1619 – 13 December 1669) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1666. Dyke was born at Ninfield, Sussex, the son of Thomas Dyke of Horsham, Waldron, Sussex. William Spence (MP)
William Guthrie Spence (7 August 1846 – 13 December 1926), was an Australian trade union leader and politician, played a leading role in the formation of both Australia's largest union, the Australian Workers' Union, and the Australian Labor Party. Early life Spence was born on the island of Eday in the Orkney Islands, Scotland and migrated to Australia with his family as age six. He had no formal education and worked as a farm labourer in the Wimmera district of Victoria from the age of 13. Later he acquired a gold-mining licence and worked for various mining companies. In 1871 he married Ann Jane Savage. In 1874, Spence was one of a number of militant mine-workers who formed the Amalgamated Miners' Association of Victoria, and he became the union's general secretary in 1882. He led the union into mergers with similar unions in the other Australian colonies, forming the Amalgamated Miners' Association of Australasia.
