George Michael Marovich
George Michael Marovich (born January 2, 1931) is an inactive senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Education and career Marovich was born in East Hazel Crest, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1952, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1954. He was a title examiner for the Chicago Title and Trust Company in Chicago, Illinois from 1954 to 1959. He was in private practice in South Holland, Illinois from 1959 to 1966. He was a vice president & trust officer for South Holland Trust & Savings Bank of South Holland from 1966 to 1976. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. South Holland is a village and south suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States, within Thornton Township. The population was 21,465 at the 2020 census. History The area currently occupied by South Holland, Illinois, was first settled in 1846 by immigrants from South Holland, Netherlands. When the community formally incorporated as a village in 1894, its population was about 1,000. Originally a general farming community, it later specialized in vegetable growing, especially onion sets. By the 1940s South Holland was known as the "Onion Set Capital of the World".
