George Meeker
George Meeker (March 5, 1904 – August 19, 1984) was an American character film and Broadway actor. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Meeker made several films such as ''Crime, Inc.'' (1945) and ''A Thief in the Dark'' (1928), and he played an uncredited part in '' All Through the Night'' (1941). Meeker has a star at 6101 Hollywood Boulevard in the Motion Pictures section of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Meeker's Broadway credits include ''Conflict'' (1929), ''Back Here'' (1928), ''Judy'' (1927), ''A Lady's Virtue'' (1925), and ''Judy Drops In'' (1924). ''Tarzan's Revenge'' is a 1938 American adventure film starring Glenn Morris in his only outing as Tarzan. Eleanor Holm, a popular swimming star, co-starred as Eleanor Reed. The film was produced by Sol Lesser, written by Robert Lee Johnson and Jay Vann (based on the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs) and directed by D. Ross Lederman. She had been convicted with her husband, Jim, who created a badger game that she unwittingly participated in, and after their victim committed suicide. When she's let out (Jim remains) she has no resources, and she ducks into a cab driven by Harry Glynn to get out of the rain. ''Blessed Event'' is a 1932 American pre-Code comedy-drama film directed by Roy Del Ruth and starring Lee Tracy as a newspaper gossip columnist who becomes entangled with a gangster. The Tracy character (Alvin Roberts) was reportedly patterned after Walter Winchell, famous gossip columnist of the era. The film was Dick Powell's film debut. Plot Alvin Roberts feuds with singer Bunny Harmon. Roberts reports on society people who are expecting a "blessed event", i.e. going to have a child. One such report antagonizes a gangster in a delicate situation, who sends over a henchman to threaten him. Roberts manages to turn the tables on the gangster. The play was written by Frank Craven and produced by John Golden. It closed in 1922 after 760 performances. In 1932, a film adapted from the Craven play was written by Lynn Starling. The film starred Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, and was directed by William K. Howard. Gaynor and Farrell made almost a dozen films together, including Frank Borzage's classics '' Seventh Heaven'' (1927), '' Street Angel'' (1928), and '' Lucky Star'' (1929); Gaynor won the first Academy Award for Best Actress for the first two and F.
