George McCloud
George Aaron McCloud (born May 27, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player who played eleven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early life McCloud attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach and Florida State University in Tallahassee. While at Florida State, McCloud was among the most discussed NBA prospects in the school’s history. Professional career McCloud was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft. The 6'6" (1.98 m) guard–forward averaged 5.5 points per game overall for the Pacers, perhaps peaking in the 1992 NBA Playoffs as he averaged 11.5 points and 3 assists per game as the Pacers lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round. Daytona Beach, or simply Daytona, is a coastal resort-city in east-central Florida. Metro Conference
The Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference, popularly known as the Metro Conference, was an NCAA Division I athletics conference, so named because its six charter members were all in urban metropolitan areas, though its later members did not follow that pattern. The conference was centered in the Upper South with some strength in the Deep South. John Battle (basketball)
John Sidney Battle (born November 9, 1962) is a retired American professional basketball player and pastor. A 6' 2" (1.88 m) guard from Rutgers University, Battle was selected in the fourth round of the 1985 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He ended his career with 5,338 points. 1989 NBA Draft
The 1989 NBA draft took place on June 27, 1989, in New York City. Despite eight of the top ten picks being considered busts, including the first two picks Pervis Ellison and Danny Ferry, the draft produced many talented players such as Shawn Kemp, Glen Rice, Sean Elliott, Nick Anderson, Dana Barros, Tim Hardaway, Vlade Divac, Clifford Robinson, B. J. Armstrong and Mookie Blaylock. The draft was reduced from three rounds in the previous year to the two-round format that is still in use to the present day.
