George M. Moraes
George Mark Moraes (11 May 1905 – April 1994) was a renowned historian, author, writer and professor from Goa. He has over 29 historical and research works to his name which were published in 74 publications and 542 library holdings. He is considered as one of the greatest Goan intellectuals and historians. He is best known for his book, ''The Kadamba Kula'' (1931). Early life and education George Mark Moraes was born in 1905 at Bencleamvaddo, Cuncolim. He completed his Ph.D in English. Career Moraes was a professor of history at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. His book, ''The Kadamba Kula'' (1931) is his research on the Kadamba dynasty. According to Google Books, his work was chosen by the scholars for being culturally important and is now part of the conceptualisation of civilization. Cuncolim
Cuncolim is a town in South Goa district in the state of Goa, India. Etymology The name 'Cuncolim' is derived from the fact that the village was known as 'Kumkumahalli', the place where ''kumkuma '' (vermilion) is produced. Geography Cuncolim is located at . It has an average elevation of . History It is a former village, now with a municipal council of its own, in the south Goa sub-district (''taluka'') of Salcette, India. It is part of the AVC (Assolna-Velim-Cuncolim) network of villages. Historically, there are twelve ''Vangodds'' (clans) of ''Ganvkars'' (landlords) in the village. In India, a Municipal Council (also known as Municipality, Nagar Palika, or Nagar Palika Parishad) is an Urban Local Body that administers a city of population 100,000 or more. However, there are exceptions to that, as previously Nagar Palikas constituted in urban centers with populations over 20,000, so all the urban bodies which were previously classified as Nagar Palikas even if their population was under 100,000. Heritage Site
A historic site or heritage site is an official location where pieces of political, military, cultural, or social history have been preserved due to their cultural heritage value. Portuguese India
