George Lake (footballer)
George Andrew Lake (12 May 1889 – 6 November 1918) was an English professional footballer who made one appearance in the Football League for Chelsea as a left half. Personal life In 1915, during the second year of the First World War, Lake enlisted as a private in the 66th (2nd East Lancashire) Divisional Cyclist Company. He was later transferred to the Hampshire Regiment (later the Royal Hampshire Regiment) for service overseas, eventually joining the 2nd/4th Battalion of the regiment. Lake died of wounds on 6 November 1918, five days before the armistice with Germany, two days after his battalion's attempt to cross the Sambre–Oise Canal near Frasnoy Frasnoy () is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Eastham, Merseyside
Eastham is a village and an Ward (country subdivision), electoral ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, in Merseyside, England. Historic counties of England, Historically (until 1974), it was part of Cheshire. It is situated on the Wirral Peninsula, to the south of Bromborough and to the east of Willaston, Cheshire West, Willaston. At the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 Census, it had a population of 12,250 (5,940 males, 6,310 females), although the total ward population for the town stood at 13,637 (6,562 males, 7,075 females). In 2011 the town's population was not measured separately but a review was carried out for the ward. The total population had risen to 13,882 of which 6,730 were males and 7,152 females. Paul Lake
Paul Andrew Lake (born 28 October 1968) is an English former professional footballer who played for Manchester City and represented England at under-21 and B team level. He had an excellent early career with Manchester City, winning the FA Youth Cup in 1986 and helping the club to win promotion out of the Second Division in 1988–89. However a ruptured Anterior cruciate ligament in September 1990 would lead to several seasons struggling with knee injuries, and he would only play four further games from that point before announcing his retirement in January 1996. Despite his career effectively ending at the age of 21 he was later inducted into the Manchester City Hall of Fame, and was seen as a player who would have been a key first team player for many years had it not been for his injury problems.
