George Irwin (football Manager)
George Irwin (born 7 January 1891) was manager of the English football clubs Crystal Palace (1939–47) and Darlington (1950–52). He also made appearances in the Football League for Crystal Palace and Reading. Playing career Irwin began his career at West Bromwich Albion, but did not make a first team appearance for the club. He signed for Crystal Palace in 1921, as understudy to Jack Alderson. After two seasons he moved on to Reading where he spent a further three seasons before retiring as a player. Coaching career Irwin then moved into coaching, initially with Southend United, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday where he also served as assistant manager, and was on the staff when Wednesday won the 1935 FA Cup Final. Irwin returned to Crystal Palace, as coach, in 1937 before being appointed manager in 1939. George Rankine Irwin
George Rankin Irwin (February 26, 1907 – October 9, 1998) was an American scientist in the field of fracture mechanics and strength of materials. He was internationally known for his study of fracture of materials. Early life and education George R. Irwin was born in El Paso, Texas. His family moved to Springfield, Illinois where he went to school. He attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and earned an A.B. degree in English in 1930. After an additional year studying physics, he transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied from 1931 to 1935. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1937; his thesis was on the mass ratio of lithium isotopes. Career In 1937 he joined the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington D.C. where he worked until 1967. George LeRoy Irwin
George LeRoy Irwin (April 26, 1868 – February 19, 1931) was a major general of the United States Army. Fort Irwin National Training Center is named in his honor. Early life Irwin was born on April 26, 1868 at Fort Wayne, Michigan. His parents were Army Brigadier General Bernard J. D. Irwin, a surgeon in the Army Medical Corps who received the Medal of Honor in the Apache Wars, and his wife Antoinette Elizabeth Stahl Irwin. George Macaulay Irwin
George Macaulay Irwin (May 2, 1921 – November 24, 2020) was an American expert in the arts and a businessman, editor, musician and conductor. Irwin is known for his work with arts organizations on the local, state, and national levels, as well as his efforts in preserving historic architecture. He was also the founder of America's first arts council, the Quincy Society of Fine Arts, the founder and first chairman of the Illinois Arts Council, founder and first president of the Americans for the Arts (formerly American Council for the Arts), and worked as a consultant on the committee that established the National Endowment for the Arts.
