George Gordon Hyde
George Gordon Hyde, (January 24, 1883 – July 20, 1946) was a Canadian politician, and a prominent lawyer in the city of Montreal. Born in Montreal, Quebec on January 24, 1883, he was educated at the High School of Montreal and McGill University, where he obtained a law degree, and was called to the Quebec Bar on 21 August 1908. He became well known in the fields of company and commercial law, first with the law firm of R.C. Smith, K.C., and later as senior partner of his own firm, Hyde & Ahern. He was made King's Counsel 27 December 1918, and elected president of the Junior Bar Association of Montreal 1919. Elected Quebec Vice-President of the Canadian Bar Association in 1944. President of the Reform Club of Montreal, 1935. He was well known in English and American legal circles. Admiral Sir George Francis Hyde, (19 July 1877 – 28 July 1937) was an English-born Australian admiral, known as a former head and the first officer to achieve the rank of full admiral in the Royal Australian Navy. Early life Hyde was born in the seaside resort, Southsea, in the city of Portsmouth. He was the son of a clerk, Ebenezer Hyde, and Maria, née Alexander. Educated at a private school in Portsmouth, Hyde's desire to attain a high rank in the Royal Navy was strengthened by a love to serve his country, and love for the sea. Entrance into Britain's Royal Navy In 1894, Hyde entered the merchant service as an apprentice, hoping to gain a commission into the Royal Naval Reserve. Finishing his apprenticeship after four trips aboard a sailing ship, ''Mount Stewart'', he journeyed as second mate in the barque ''Amulree'' in 1898. Captain George Arthur Hyde MC (31 July 1893 – ?) was a British World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories. Military service Having served as a cadet in the Officers' Training Corps, Hyde was commissioned as a second lieutenant on 16 November 1914. He served in France in the 10th (Service) Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps, where in May 1916 he was awarded the Military Cross. His citation read: :Temporary Second Lieutenant George Arthur Hyde, 10th Bn., KRRC. ::"For conspicuous gallantry. While creeping up to attack an enemy working party he met an enemy patrol, which he opened fire on at very close range. Finally his own party came under heavy fire and suffered casualties. George Hyde (bishop)
George Augustine Hyde (July 2, 1923 – May 4, 2010) was an American bishop. He founded the Society of Domestic Missionaries and co-established with John Kazantks the first Christian congregation in the United States to minister openly to and with openly homosexual parishioners. He later served as metropolitan archbishop of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America from 1970 to 1983. Hyde was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who grew up in a Southern Baptist family in Atlanta and attended a seminary though he did not complete his seminary education. He was a high school teacher in Atlanta when he met Kazantks, an immigrant from Greece and former bishop of the Greek Orthodox Church who had been forced out of his native country after coming out. George Hyde (gun Designer)
George J. Hyde Sr. (born Heide; January 4, 1888 – December 2, 1963) was a German-born American machinist, gunsmith and gun designer best known for his submachine guns. He was born in Apfingen, Germany. Already a skilled machinist, he immigrated to the United States in 1927. His family followed the next year. Before 1935 George J. Hyde was a machinist and shop foreman at Griffin & Howe. He quit Griffin & Howe and went on to become the co-owner of Leonard & Hyde in New York. He partnered with Samuel A. "Harry" Leonard, an expert shotgun and rifle stock maker, who had trained at James Purdey & Sons of London. Hyde also did contract gunsmithing work for Roberts and Kimball in Woburn, Massachusetts. Sir George Hyde (1570 – March/April 1623) was an English politician and appointed Knight of the Order of the Bath. Hyde was the eldest son of William Hyde of South Denchworth in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire) and his wife Catherine daughter of George Gill of Wyddial in Hertfordshire. The family had been influential in Berkshire for centuries. Hyde was the stepson of Richard Lovelace. He was MP for Tamworth, where his wife came from, in 1597 and for Berkshire in 1601. He was succeeded in that office by Francis Knollys. He was appointed Knight of the Order of the Bath. He lived at Kingston Lisle Park in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire) and built the house preceding the present one.
