George Hughes (American Football)
George Hughes (August 19, 1925 – February 5, 2009) was a guard who played five seasons in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hughes attended the College of William and Mary. He died February 5, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Hampton. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. Matthew Fontaine Maury High School also known as Maury High School, is a high school located in the Ghent area of Norfolk, Virginia, United States. Maury's school mascot is the Commodore. The high school is named for Matthew Fontaine Maury. In 2007, ''Newsweek'' placed Maury High School in the top 1300 of America's Top Public High Schools. The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, administrators, journalists and other contributors to athletics.
