George Houston (actor)
George Fleming Houston (January 11, 1896 – November 12, 1944) was an American B-western film actor and accomplished singer in the early half of the 20th century. Early life, World War I service Born and raised in Hampton, New Jersey, his parents were Reverend Thomas Houston, a blind evangelist, and Mrs. Charles Houston. He attended Blair Academy, in New Jersey, where he ran track, then later he attended the Institute of Musical Arts, the original name for what would eventually become Juilliard School. Houston received two degrees, one in voice, and one for teaching music. Houston joined the U.S. Army, serving in France during World War I, attached to the 17th French Division, in the Ambulance Service. His military service ran from June 5, 1917, to April 12, 1919. In 1923 he began studying at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Houston garnered leading bass roles in such operas as ''Boris Godunov'' and ''Faust'' under the direction of Vladimir Rosing. George Houston (painter)
George Houston RSA, RI, RSW (20 January 1869 – 5 October 1947) was a Scottish artist. He was a prolific landscape painter, using both oil and watercolour. He primarily depicted scenes of Argyll and Ayrshire. Life and death Houston was born in Dalry, North Ayrshire. In the 1880s he stayed at North Bank Cottage in Portencross, where he formed a long-lasting friendship with the noted Scottish author Neil Munro (Para Handy). In 1912 Neil Munro wrote a book entitled "Ayrshire Idylls", and this was illustrated by George Houston. It is possible that Houston and his family moved to the nearby town of Saltcoats before moving back to Dalry. Thereafter he lived at West Lynn until his death on 5 October 1947. George Francis Huston (1812 – 18 December 1890) was an Australian politician. Huston was born in 1812. He was a doctor before entering politics. In 1887 he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly, representing the seat of New Norfolk New Norfolk is a town on the Derwent River (Tasmania), River Derwent, in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. George Houston Burr
George Houston Burr (20 or 29 May 1881 – 30 September 1958), also known as G. Houston Burr or Houston Burr, was an American architect primarily active in Boston, Massachusetts, and the surrounding area from at least 1910 into the 1950s. From 1920 onward Burr was partnered with fellow architect James E. McLaughlin, who had previously designed Fenway Park, the home stadium of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. Their architectural firm was called McLaughlin and Burr. Early life Burr was born on 20 May 1881 or 29 May 1881 in Maryland. His father Shields Burr (1853–1883) was born in Washington, D.C., and died in Topolobampo, Mexico, of yellow fever and was buried at sea in that city's harbor. Two cenotaphs for Shields Burr exist: one at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, D.C., and another at Rome Cemetery in Rome, Maine. George Houston House
The George Houston House, also known as the "Wall-Houston House", is a private historic home between Mooresville and Davidson, North Carolina in Iredell County that was built in 1818. The original portion of the home was built with log construction, and several later additions, including a 19th-century ell. In its nomination, the home's original Federal-style construction was noted as being highly representative of the idiosyncrasies found in home designs in Iredell County and the North Carolina Piedmont during the Federal era. The property on which the home sits also contains several historic outbuildings, including an early log barn.
