George Handley (politician)
George Handley (February 9, 1752September 17, 1793) was an American politician who served as the 18th Governor of Georgia from 1788 to 1789. George Handley was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati of the State of Georgia. Biography Handley was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, in 1752 and moved to Savannah, Georgia, in 1775. During the American Revolutionary War, he served in the 1st Georgia Battalion of the Continental Army, rising to the rank of captain. He was taken prisoner at Augusta, Georgia on September 18, 1780. Handley served as the Governor of Georgia from 1788 to 1789 and was instrumental in the drafting of Georgia's state constitution. George Handley (footballer, Born 1886)
George Albert Handley (1886–1952) was an English professional Association football, footballer who played most of his career as a Midfielder#Winger, winger with Bradford City A.F.C., Bradford City. Born in Totley, Sheffield, he began his professional career with Chesterfield F.C., Chesterfield Town before moving to Bradford in 1906. After five years at Bradford, Handley left for Southampton F.C., Southampton in 1911 but his stay was only a brief one as he moved on to become player-manager of Goole Town F.C., Goole Town in 1912. He re-joined Bradford in 1913 but was released at the end of the season and signed for Barrow F.C., Barrow with whom he remained for the duration of World War I, occasionally guesting for his home town club Sheffield United F.C., Sheffield United. After the war Handley returned to Bradford for a third spell, ending his playing career with the club, and later spent some time as coach of Swiss side SC Brühl, Brühl. George Handley (footballer, Born 1912)
George H. Handley (5 July 1912 – 9 July 1943) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward in the Football League for Crystal Palace. Football career Handley began his football career in September 1931 with Hednesford Town. He soon came to the attention of West Bromwich Albion, for which he signed in June 1932. Despite playing many matches in the reserves and being capped at the amateur level for England, Handley never appeared for the first team at West Brom. Transferred to Crystal Palace in 1934, he played 5 matches in the Football League Third Division South before being signed by Brierley Hill Alliance the next season. Handley's next and final club was Darlaston, where he played until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Personal life Handley was married. He served as a lance corporal in the 2nd (Airborne) Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment during the Second World War and was killed during the invasion of Sicily on 9 July 19 ...
