George Greville (diplomat)
Sir George Greville, KCMG (12 May 1851 – 25 October 1937) was a British diplomat. Biography Greville was the elder son of Captain Algernon William Bellingham Greville, of Granard, and the great-grandson of Fulke Greville. His uncle was Fulke Greville-Nugent, 1st Baron Greville. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford and entered HM Diplomatic Service in 1875. He was Secretary of the British Legation at Rio de Janeiro in 1892, Consul-General at Budapest in 1896, Minister Resident at Bangkok from 1896 to 1900, and Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Mexico from 1900 to 1905. Greville was appointed CMG in 1895 and promoted KCMG in 1905. Knight Commander Of The Order Of Saint Michael And Saint George
The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George is a British order of chivalry founded on 28 April 1818 by George IV, Prince of Wales, while he was acting as prince regent for his father, King George III. It is named in honour of two military saints, Michael and George. The Order of St Michael and St George was originally awarded to those holding commands or high position in the Mediterranean territories acquired in the Napoleonic Wars, and was subsequently extended to holders of similar office or position in other territories of the British Empire. Granard () is a town in the north of County Longford, Ireland, and has a traceable history going back to AD 236. It is situated just south of the boundary between the watersheds of the Shannon and the Erne, at the point where the N55 national secondary road and the R194 regional road meet.
