George Green (footballer, Born 1901)
George Green (2 May 1901 – 1980) was an English footballer who played as a wing half in the Football League with Sheffield United in the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Leamington Spa and played for a number of local teams before signing for First Division side Sheffield United in 1923.allfootballers.com stats (website expired) He went on to make 422 senior appearances for the Yorkshire club, scoring 11 times. He was a member of the successful United side that won the FA Cup in 1925. Four weeks after winning the FA Cup, Green was awarded his first England cap against France. Leamington Spa
Royal Leamington Spa, commonly known as Leamington Spa or simply Leamington (), is a spa town and civil parish in Warwickshire, England. Originally a small village called Leamington Priors, it grew into a spa town in the 18th century following the popularisation of its water which was reputed to have medicinal qualities. In the 19th century, the town experienced one of the most rapid expansions in England. It is named after the River Leam, which flows through the town. The town contains especially fine ensembles of Regency architecture, particularly in parts of the Parade, Clarendon Square and Lansdowne Circus. In the 2021 census Leamington had a population of 50,923.
