George Gibson (baseball)
George C. Gibson (July 22, 1880 – January 25, 1967), nicknamed Mooney, was a Canadians, Canadian professional baseball player, Coach (baseball), coach, Scout (sport), scout, and Manager (baseball), manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher from 1905 to 1918, most prominently for the Pittsburgh Pirates where he played the bulk of his career and was a member of the 1909 World Series winning team. Gibson spent the final two years of his career as a player-coach for the New York Giants (NL), New York Giants. He later became a Minor League Baseball, minor league manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs (International League), Toronto Maple Leafs before returning to the major leagues as a manager for the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs. George Stacey Gibson FLS (20 July 1818 – 11 April 1883), was a British banker, botanist and philanthropist. Early life George Stacey Gibson was born in Saffron Walden, Essex on 20 July 1818, the only child of Wyatt George Gibson (1790–1862) and Deborah, daughter of George Stacey of Alton, Hampshire. He was a nephew of Jabez Gibson. Career The Gibson family of Saffron Walden owned a brewery, an extensive chain of public houses, a bank and a number of substantial residential properties in the town. As a botanist, Gibson discovered various plants, was made a Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1847, and published ''Flora of Essex''. However, after the death of his father had to focus on running the Saffron Walden and North Essex Bank, of which he was the sole proprietor. In 1874, he had William Eden Nesfield build a new bank on the east side of the Market Place. It is now a branch of Barclays Bank and Grade II* listed. George Gibson Coote (August 18, 1880 – November 24, 1959) was a Canadian accountant, bank manager, farmer, and federal politician. Political career Coote was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1921 Canadian federal election as a Progressive Party of Canada candidate in the Macleod electoral district. He defeated 3 other candidates in a landslide. Coote ran for re-election in the 1925 Canadian federal election he won a hotly contested election against former Conservative Member of Parliament John Herron and Alberta MLA Thomas Milnes. Less than a year later he defended his incumbency after the governing coalition fell apart in the 1926 Canadian federal election. He was elected defeating John Herron increasing his plurality. George Ernest Gibson (November 9, 1884 – August 26, 1959) was a Scottish-born American nuclear chemist. Early years George Ernest Gibson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and educated partly in Germany where he attended a gymnasium in Darmstadt, finishing his schooling in Edinburgh. He studied chemistry at the University of Edinburgh receiving his B.Sc. in 1906. He worked with Otto Lummer at the former University of Breslau (now University of Wrocław) where he received his Ph.D in 1911, and stayed there as lecturer for two additional years before returning to the University of Edinburgh in 1912. Work In 1913 he became professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Two of his students were awarded a Nobel Prize in Chemistry, William Giauque and Glenn T. Seaborg. George Gibson CH (3 April 1885 – 4 February 1953) was a British mental hospital attendant, trade unionist and public servant who was General Secretary of the National Asylum Workers' Union, later renamed the Mental Hospital and Institutional Workers' Union, from 1913 to 1947, then of the Confederation of Health Service Employees, into which the previous union merged, from 1947 to 1948. He was ruined through his largely innocent association with the fraudster Sidney Stanley, which was exposed by the Lynskey Tribunal in 1948. Gibson was born in Calton, a suburb of Glasgow, the son of Irish-born Johnston Gibson, a drysalter (maker of vinegar and castor oil) who later successively owned a fish and chip shop, a fish shop and a newsagent. George Gibson (1775–1861) was the United States Army's first Commissary General of Subsistence, holding the office from 1818 to 1861. He served as an infantry officer during the War of 1812, then briefly as Quartermaster General, before being appointed Commissary General. When he died he was the oldest serving officer in the army. The Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the United States expedition to cross the newly acquired western portion of the country after the Louisiana Purchase. The Corps of Discovery was a select group of U.S. Army and civilian volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark. George Nuah Gibson (born 17 August 2000) is a Norwegian footballer who plays for PO Xylotymbou. From Tønsberg, he started his youth career with IL Flint before joining Sandefjord's youth system in summer 2016. George Randall Gibson (October 2, 1905 – August 19, 2004) was an American football player and coach. He played college football as a guard at the University of Minnesota from 1926 to 1928. He was captain of the 1928 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team and was named to the 1928 College Football All-America Team. Gibson was a teammate and roommate of Bronko Nagurski. The two are jointly honored as the namesakes of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football training complex, the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex. While at the University of Minnesota, Gibson was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Gibson was a professional player and coach in the early National Football League (NFL).
