George Freeman (comic Book Artist)
George Freeman (born May 27, 1951 in Selkirk, Manitoba) is a Canadian comic book penciller, inker, and colorist. Freeman's comic-book illustrating career began with Richard Comely’s independent Canadian publication, '' Captain Canuck''. He subsequently worked on several superhero comics, such as DC Comics' ''Green Lantern'' and ''Aquaman'', and Marvel Comics' ''Jack of Hearts'', and '' The Avengers''. He drew a story in '' Batman Annual'' #11, written by Alan Moore. In addition, he was one of several rotating artists on the short-lived horror comic anthology ''Wasteland'' by writer and actor Del Close and writer John Ostrander. Freeman alternated with artists Don Simpson, William Messner-Loebs, and David Lloyd on drawing one of the three horror stories in each issue, the fourth artist providing the cover. Selkirk, Manitoba
Selkirk is a city in the western Canadian province of Manitoba, located on the Red River about northeast of the provincial capital Winnipeg. It has a population of 10,504 as of the 2021 census. The mainstays of the local economy are tourism, a steel mill, and a psychiatric hospital. A vertical lift bridge over the Red River connects Selkirk with the smaller town of East Selkirk. The city is connected to Winnipeg via Highway 9 and is served by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The city was named in honour of Scotsman Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, who obtained the grant to establish a colony in the Red River area in 1813. ''Batman'' is an ongoing American comic book series featuring the DC Comics superhero Batman as its main protagonist. The character, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, first appeared in ''Detective Comics'' #27 (cover dated May 1939). Batman proved to be so popular that a self-titled ongoing comic book series began publication with a cover date of spring 1940. It was first advertised in early April 1940, one month after the first appearance of his new sidekick, Robin (character), Robin the Boy Wonder. Batman comics have proven to be popular since the 1940s. Though the ''Batman'' comic book was initially launched as a quarterly publication, it later became a bimonthly series through the late 1950s, after which it became a monthly publication and has remained so ever since. Joe Shuster Award
The Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards (or Joe Shuster Awards) are given out annually for outstanding achievements in the creation of comic books, graphic novels, webcomics, and comics retailers and publishers by Canadian comics, Canadians. The awards, first handed out in April 2005, are named in honour of Joe Shuster (1914–1992), the Canadian-born co-creator of Superman. The Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards Association is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2004 to administer the awards. X-Files (comics)
''The X-Files'' was a spin-off from the television series of the same name, originally published by Topps Comics and, most recently, DC Comics imprint Wildstorm. Publication history The first series was published by Topps Comics and ran for 41 issues from January 1995 to September 1998, coinciding with the second through fifth seasons of the television program. In 1996, Topps published ''X-Files'' #0, an adaptation of the pilot episode, in order to test the market for a series adapting the episodes of the ''X-Files'' TV series. The issue was successful, and ''X-Files Season One'' ran for nine issues (August 1997 – July 1998). The series's name was provisional, and Topps in fact intended to adapt every episode, but never got as far as season two. Topps Comics was a division of Topps, Topps Company, Inc. that published comic books from 1993 to 1998, beginning its existence during a short comics-industry boom that attracted many investors and new companies.
