George Ferris (cricketer)
George John Fitzgerald Ferris (born October 18, 1964 in Antigua) is a former first-class cricketer who played for the Leeward Islands and Leicestershire. A right-arm fast bowler, Ferris took 286 wickets at 25.71 in his career between 1983 and 1990. His cousin Hamish Anthony played ODI cricket for the West Indies. Ferris became a regular in the Leicestershire side in the late 1980s when the other overseas Leicestershire player and fellow West Indian Winston Benjamin was on duty playing for the West Indies. Although Ferris played cricket for the Leeward Islands he was never selected by the West Indies due to the strength of the bowling attack the West Indies had at the time. He took his best figures in 1983 in his fourth match for Leicestershire, when he took 7 for 42 and 3 for 62; seven of his victims were out leg before wicket. George Washington Gale Ferris Jr
George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. (February 14, 1859 – November 22, 1896) was an American civil engineer. He is mostly known for creating the original Ferris Wheel for the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition. Early life Ferris was born on February 14, 1859, in Galesburg, Illinois, the town founded by his namesake, George Washington Gale. His parents were George Washington Gale Ferris Sr. and Martha Edgerton Hyde. He had an older brother named Frederick Hyde, born in 1843. In 1864, five years after Ferris was born, his family sold their dairy farm and moved to Nevada. For two years, they lived in Carson Valley. From 1868 to 1890, his father, George Washington Gale Ferris Sr., owned the Sears–Ferris House, at 311 W. Third, Carson City, Nevada. Originally built in about 1863 by Gregory A. George Ashmead Ferris
George A. Ferris & Son was an architectural firm in Reno, Nevada, consisting of partners George Ashmead Ferris (1859-1948) and his son Lehman "Monk" Ferris (1893-1996). The partnership lasted from just 1928 to 1932; both father and son however were individually prominent. A number of the firm's or individual Ferris works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. and Lehman served as Reno, Nevada's first building inspector and participated in efforts to create a uniform building code nationwide. He also served as the first chairman of the Nevada State Board of Architecture. ''George M!'' is a Broadway musical based on the life of George M. Cohan, the biggest Broadway star of his day who was known as "The Man Who Owned Broadway." The book for the musical was written by Michael Stewart, John Pascal, and Francine Pascal. Music and lyrics were by George M. Cohan himself, with revisions for the musical by Cohan's daughter, Mary Cohan. The story covers the period from the late 1880s until 1937 and focuses on Cohan's life and show business career from his early days in vaudeville with his parents and sister to his later success as a Broadway singer, dancer, composer, lyricist, theatre director and producer.
