George D. Parker
George D. Parker (1873-1937) was an Australian actor, writer and director who worked extensively in Australian theatre during the 1920s and 1930s, mostly for J.C. Williamson Ltd. He was later employed by Cinesound Productions as a dialogue director and screenwriter (in collaboration with Vic Roberts), as well as running the Cinesound Talent School with Frank Harvey. According to Hall, "Parker was much more slick in his handling of dialogue" than him around the time of ''The Silence of Dean Maitland'' but he did not work with Cinesound after '' Grandad Rudd''. Parker was working in radio just prior to his death. Cinesound Productions Pty Ltd was an Australian feature film production company, established in June 1931, Cinesound developed out of a group of companies centred on Greater Union Theatres, that covered all facets of the film process, from production, to distribution and exhibition. Cinesound Productions established a film studio as a subsidiary of Greater Union Theatres Pty Ltd based on the Hollywood model. Vic Roberts (writer)
Vic Roberts was an English-born writer who worked in theatre, film and radio. He is best known for writing vaudeville sketches for Roy Rene in the 1920s and 1930s although there is some debate as to the exact extent of his contribution. He had a background in English musical hall and was hired to work for Rene by Sir Benjamin Fuller. After his initial trip to Australia, Roberts returned to England but then decided to stay in Australia. Roberts also wrote a number of screenplays for Ken G. Hall in collaboration with George D. Frank Harvey (Australian Screenwriter)
Frank Harvey (22 December 1885 – 10 October 1965) was a British-born actor, producer and writer best known for his work in Australia. Biography Frank Harvey was born Harvey Ainsworth Hilton, in 1883 in Earls Court, London, son of John Ainsworth Hilton and Elizabeth Hilton. His occupation in the British 1911 Census was "actor" and was married with Grace Hilton, . He had 3 sisters, named Maria, Cora and Caroline according to the British 1891 Census. Caroline Gladys Hilton was married to Hanns Wyldeck and from that union was born in 1914 Harvey Martin Wyldeck, also an actor, who died in England in 1989. He was the cousin to Frank Harvey, Harvey Ainsworth Hilton's son from Grace Hilton. Martin Wyldeck's son Christopher Wyldeck also moved to Australia in the 1970s and became a TV director. Grandad Rudd
''Grandad Rudd'' is a 1935 comedy featuring the Dad and Dave characters created by Steele Rudd and based on a play by Rudd. It was a sequel to ''On Our Selection (1932 film), On Our Selection'', and was later followed by ''Dad and Dave Come to Town'' and ''Dad Rudd, MP''. Plot The movie's plot is similar to that of the play: Dad Rudd (Bert Bailey) has become a successful father but is very tight with his money and oppresses his sons Dave (Fred MacDonald), Joe (William McGowan) and Dan (George Lloyd). The sons eventually stand up to their father and manage to persuade him to give them a wage increase – but he increases their rent by an equal amount. ''Strike Me Lucky'' is a 1934 Australian comedy musical film starring popular stage comic Roy Rene in his first and only film. It was the fourth feature film from Cinesound Productions but proved a box office disappointment. Director Ken G. Hall says it was the only one of his features not to go into profit within a few years of release, although he says it eventually covered costs. Synopsis 'Mo' McIsaac and his sidekick Donald try to find work to support a young orphan girl he finds dancing for pennies in the street, Miriam, unaware she is really the missing daughter of rich aristocrat, Major Burnett. Gangster Al Baloney and Mae West impersonator Kate kidnap the girl and Mo is blamed for her disappearance. ''Cinesound Varieties'' is a 1934 Australian variety short film from director Ken G. Hall made to go out on a double-bill with the full-length feature, '' The Silence of Dean Maitland'' (1934). Only 18 minutes of the film survive today. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts.
