James Danforth Quayle (; born February 4, 1947) is an American politician who served as the 44th vice president of the United States from 1989 to 1993 under President George H. W. Bush. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, Quayle served as a United States Senate, U.S. senator from Indiana from 1981 to 1989 and a member of the United States House of Representatives, U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana, Indiana's 4th district from 1977 to 1981. A native of Indianapolis, Quayle spent most of his childhood in Paradise Valley, Arizona, Paradise Valley, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona.
