George Edward Barr (born January 30, 1937) is an American science fiction and fantasy artist. Career Barr's work shows influences from Arthur Rackham, Hannes Bok and Virgil Finlay. ''The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction'' describes him as one of the least appreciated SF/fantasy artists. His work is often romantic and whimsical. His technique involves overlaying pen and ink line work with pastel watercolors. Barr began his art career in 1960 by contributing artwork to various high-profile science fiction fanzines in fandom and for many years displaying and selling his artwork in the art shows of both regional science fiction conventions and at the annual World Science Fiction Convention. A collection of his professional fantasy and science fiction paintings, '' Upon the Winds of Yesterday and Other Explorations'', was published by Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. in 1976. George Barr (soccer)
George Barr (December 31, 1915 – April 11, 2000) was an American soccer fullback who spent fifteen seasons in the American Soccer League. He was inducted to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1983. Barr moved to the United States from England in 1927. Five years later, he signed with Brooklyn Celtic of the American Soccer League. In 1935, he moved to New York Brookhattan. In 1936, he had a trial with Hearts F.C. Heart of Midlothian Football Club, commonly known as Hearts, is a professional football club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team competes in the Scottish Professional Football League. Hearts, the oldest and most successful football club in the S ..., but was not offered a contract. He returned to Brookhattan and remained with the team until 1947, except for three years during which he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. George Barr (umpire)
George McKinley Barr (July 19, 1892 – July 26, 1974) was an American professional baseball umpire who was a pioneer in Umpiring Instruction. Barr worked in the National League from 1931 to 1949. Barr umpired 2,757 major league games in his 19-year career. He umpired in four World Series (1937, 1942, 1948, 1949) and two All-Star Games (1937 and 1944). Barr was founder of the George Barr Umpire School, the earliest umpire training school and author of the first book on umpiring. Barr was a pioneer in using the inside chest protector.David L.
