Cartman (band)
Cartman was a four-piece indie rock band from Perth, Western Australia. History 1997-2001: Early years The band was formed in 1997 in an attempt to enter a songwriting competition by Joe Hawkins, "I had sent in a tape of some songs recorded at home on the four-track, Only trouble was that (to play the songs live) I needed to get a bass player and someone who could sing harmonies" and so called on Cain Turnley, a trusted friend and a more than competent guitarist, "I had two weeks to rehearse the tunes and Id never picked up a bass before." Performing under the name Mr. Pink, they were knocked out of the contest in the first round but continued to play together for the next four months. In 1998 Scott Nicholls (lead guitar) and Ben Mills (drums) completed the line-up and heralded the beginning of the band that was now affectionately renamed ''Cartman''. Ben-Zion "Ben" Glatzer (born 8 October 1959, Perth) is an Australian sound engineer and producer. He worked on Ammonia's debut album, ''Mint 400'' (1995), The Chevelles' ''At Second Glance'' (1995), Cartman's debut '' Go!'' (2002), The Stems' '' Mushroom Soup: The Citadel Years'' (2003), and The Sleepy Jackson's debut '' Lovers'' (2003). ''Go!'' is the debut album by Australian pop rockers, Cartman, which was released on 14 January 2002 via Embryo Records and distributed by MGM Distribution. ''Go!'' was selected as Triple J's Album of the Week. Scott Nicholls designed and created its artwork. The East Perth train terminal was chosen as the location for the cover art's photo shoot, accompanied by a small library of additional band photos taken throughout the band's career. The first track lifted from the album, "Shock", raced across the national airwaves and was selected as the eviction music for reality TV show, '' Big Brother''. "Shock" spent 17 weeks in the Triple J Net 50 and was voted in the Triple J Hottest 100 songs for 2002. MGM Distribution was specifically set up as a distribution hub to service independent labels and artists.
