Geoffrey Owen Whittaker
Geoffrey Owen Whittaker, OBE (10 January 1932 – 24 February 2015) was a British civil servant. He served as the Governor of the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla from 1987 until 1989. Second son of Alfred James Whittaker (d. 1971) and Gertrude Austen (née Holvey, d. 1984), he was born in Sherwood, Nottingham, the third of three children. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Harborough Mail
''The Harborough Mail'' is a weekly newspaper which serves Market Harborough and the surrounding area. The Harborough Mail was owned by Welland Valley Newspapers, a company established in April 1883, but is now part of Northamptonshire Newspapers but the Harborough Mail itself was established in 1854. Northants Newspapers and Welland Valley Newspapers are both part of Johnston Press. The newspaper is brought out every Thursday and contains the usual local newspaper fair such as local news and sport results. The newspaper also contains a cartoon called 'Mal & Lard' - which features two ducks called Mal and Lard, and a children's club called "Harbie's Gang". Harbie the newshound makes regular appearances at public events and has a whole page dedicated to him and his gang every week. The Governor of Anguilla is the representative of the monarch in the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla. The Governor is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the British government. The Governor is the highest authority on Anguilla, but daily business is handled by local Anguillan elected officials. The main role of the Governor is to appoint the Premier of Anguilla. The Governor's official residence is Government House at Old Ta. The Governor has her own flag: the Union Flag defaced with the Coat of Arms of Anguilla.
