Geoffrey Lewis (actor)
Geoffrey Bond Lewis (July 31, 1935 – April 7, 2015) was an American character actor. He appeared in more than 200 films and television shows, and was principally known for his film roles alongside Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford. He typically portrayed villains or quirky characters. He played a bodyguard in the Jean-Claude van Damme film ''Double Impact''. Life and career Lewis was born July 31, 1935, in Plainfield, New Jersey, but spent much of his youth in Wrightwood, California. He studied theater arts at San Bernardino Valley College for two years, then worked as a truck driver and at other odd jobs before launching his career as an actor. He took acting classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and performed off-Broadway and at regional theaters in Massachusetts. He tried breaking into Hollywood in the 1960s. Geoffrey Lewis (scholar)
Geoffrey Lewis Lewis CMG FBA (19 June 1920 – 12 February 2008) was an English Professor of the Turkish language at the University of Oxford. He was well known as the author of ''Teach Yourself Turkish'' and academic books about Turkish and Turkey. Early life and education Lewis was born in London, England in 1920 and educated at University College School and St John's College, Oxford (MA 1945, DPhil 1950; James Mew Arabic Scholar, 1947). At St John's College Lewis initially studied classics. With the outbreak of the Second World War, he served from 1940 to 1945 as a radar operator in the Royal Air Force. Posted primarily in Libya and Egypt, he returned to Oxford afterwards and switched his studies to Arabic and Persian. He initially studied Turkish as a hobby: Turkish was not taught at Oxford before Lewis was appointed to his academic post. Geoff Lewis
Geoff Lewis (born 21 December 1935) is a Welsh retired jockey who was born in Talgarth, Breconshire. He moved to London with his family (he was one of thirteen children) in 1946. After initially working as a hotel page boy, he started his racing career as an apprentice with Ron Smyth, who was a trainer in Epsom. He will be best remembered as the jockey who won the 1,000 Guineas, 2,000 Guineas, Epsom Oaks (twice), Coronation Cup, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Most watchers of the sport of horse racing would consider that his greatest moment came in 1971 when he rode Mill Reef to win The Derby. He was regarded as one of Europe's leading jockeys between 1953 and 1979. Geoff Lewis retired as a jockey in 1979, after which he applied for a trainer's licence and began to train at Thirty Acre Barn, near Epsom racecourse. He trained almost 500 winners before his retirement to Spain in 1999. In 2014 he moved back to Cranleigh, to be near his daughter in Ewhurst. Major ...
