Geoffrey James Wilson (born 5 November 1952) is a former Australian politician. Early life and career Born in Culcairn in New South Wales, he was a barrister and union official before entering the Legislative Assembly. Geoffrey Victor Herbert Wilson (23 September 1938 – 9 January 2020) was an internationally distinguished nuclear physicist who made contributions to nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and low temperature physics. His research team achieved the lowest temperature ever recorded in Australia. He was born in Mentone, Victoria. He was National President of the Australian Institute of Physics and held appointments as Chair of the Victorian and Queensland Vice-Chancellors’ Committees, Vice President and Acting President of the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee. He has been Chair of the Boards of Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and the Graduate Careers Council of Australia. Geoffrey Plumpton Wilson
Geoffrey Plumpton Wilson (21 February 1878 – 30 July 1934) was an English amateur footballer who played at inside left. He made two appearances for England in 1900, scoring once. He was a member of the Corinthian amateur club and made three appearances for Southampton in 1901. Early life and education Wilson was born in Bourne, Lincolnshire, the son of the Revd. Plumpton Stravenson Wilson, and the younger brother of Charles Plumpton Wilson. Their sister Mary was the mother of Archbishop Michael Ramsey. He was educated at Rossall School and played for the school XI between 1894 and 1896, captaining the side in 1896. Football career On leaving school he joined the amateur Corinthian club, where he played between 1897 and 1902, as well as turning out occasionally for Casuals. Geoffrey Wilson (21 August 1895 – 29 November 1960) was an English amateur first-class cricketer, who played ten matches for Cambridge University in 1919 and 1920, ninety two for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1919 and 1924, and thirteen more for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1922/23 on a tour of Australia. He was Yorkshire's captain from 1922 to 1924. Born in Potternewton, Leeds, Yorkshire, Wilson was educated at Harrow. During World War I he served in the Royal Marines. After the war he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. As a batsman he scored 1,801 runs at an average of 16.22, with a best of 142 not out for the MCC against Victoria, his only century. He took forty four catches in the field. He took one wicket for 55 runs, bowling his right arm medium pace.
