Geoff Chisholm
Geoffrey Donald Chisholm (8 September 1929 – 13 January 2006) was an Australian politician. He was born in Smithton, Tasmania. In 1964, he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as a Labor member for Braddon. He was Chair of Committees from 1972 to 1974 and a minister from 1974 until his retirement in 1979. The electoral division of Braddon (named Darwin until 1955) is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, it includes North West Tasmania, north-west and Western Tasmania, western Tasmania as well as King Island (Tasmania), King Island. Smithton is a town on the far north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It lies on the Bass Highway, 85 km north-west of Burnie. At the , Smithton had a population of 3,934. Smithton is the administrative centre of the Circular Head Council. History ''Duck River'' Post Office opened on 1 November 1873 and was renamed ''Smithton'' in 1895. In 1905 Smithton was declared a town and the Mowbray swamp (now part of the locality of Mella) was drained for dairy pasture. It was here that, in 1920, the 45,000 year old skeleton of a Zygomaturus (marsupial hippopotamus) was discovered. In 1905, the Jetty at Smithton was 1200m long. Devonport ( ; Palawa Kani: ''Tiagarra'') is a city in northern Tasmania, Australia, located on the lands of the Pannilerpanner clan of the Palawa nation. It is situated at the mouth of the Mersey River. Devonport had an urban population of 26,150 at the 2021 Australian census. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system. By having multiple members for each division, the voting intentions of the electors are more closely represented in the House of Assembly. Michael Polley
Michael Robert Polley (born 4 November 1949 in Westbury, Tasmania) is a Labor Party politician and former member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly in the Division of Lyons. First elected in 1972 at age 22 he was the longest-serving member of the Tasmanian parliament, having been re-elected at ten successive State elections. He is married with two sons and one daughter. He was the youngest Cabinet Minister in Tasmanian history, appointed at the age of 27 in the government of premier Doug Lowe. His wife Kim Polley is Mayor of Northern Midlands Council, on which his son Tim also serves. His sister Helen Polley is a member of the Australian Senate. In 1989 during the Field government he was made the speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. He became speaker again in 1998 when Labor won government.
