Gentofte Badminton Klub (Gentofte Badminton Klub), also known as GBK is a badminton club in Gentofte, Gentofte Municipality, Copenhagen, Denmark. It is based in Gentofte Sportsby. The club has won more than 100 titles. It experienced its most successful period in the late 1970s and 1980 when it won Europe Cup seven times. Former players include some of Denmark's most successful badminton players, including, Morten Frost, Lene Køppen, Poul-Erik Høyer, Peter Gade and Camilla Martin. History Gentofte Badminton Klub (Gentofte Badminton or GBK) was founded on 10 February 1931. The club initially played in rented premises on Maltegårdsvej in Charlottenlund until inaugurating its current badminton hall in 1936. Location The club is based in GBK Hallen in Gentofte Sportsby. The venue contains 10 badminton courts. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. Tonny Ahm
Tonny Kristine Ahm (f. Olsen) (21 September 1914 – 7 April 1993) was a female badminton player from Denmark. She won 26 Danish National Championships between 1935 and 1957. She won eleven events at the prestigious All-England Championships, all but one of them after reaching the age of thirty. In her early forties she played singles for Denmark in the first Uber Cup The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Women's Team Championships, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams. Flemming Delfs
Flemming Delfs (born September 7, 1951) is a former Danish badminton player who was world no. 1 in 1977. He won the All England Championship, the European and the World Championship in the 1970s. Career Delfs is especially noteworthy for winning men's singles at the first IBF World Championships held in Malmö, Sweden in 1977. He dominated that same 1976/1977 season by winning nearly all other noteworthy tournaments, including the All-England Championships. Kirsten Larsen
Kirsten Larsen (born 14 March 1962) is a retired female badminton player from Denmark. Career Larsen won the All England final in 1987 in singles. She also won three bronze medals at the Badminton World Cup in 1980, 1985 and 1986 and a gold medal in 1988 European championships. She was also Danish champion in singles from 1981 to 1983 and again from 1986 to 1988, and she was called Lene Køppen's successor. Steen Skovgaard
Steen Skovgaard is a retired male badminton player from Denmark who specialized in the doubles events and won national and international titles in both men's doubles and mixed doubles from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. He played for the Gentofte BK. Career The tall, hard-hitting Skovgaard won the gold medal at the 1977 IBF World Championships in mixed doubles with Lene Køppen, defeating Derek Talbot and Gillian Gilks by 15-12, 18-17 in the final.
