Genting Monorail
Genting Monorail was the first monorail service in Malaysia and a former theme park monorail service at Genting Highlands, which was designed to look like a caterpillar. The trains of the monorail were used at the Dutch Floriade in 1992, before they were sold to the Malaysian theme park and operated from 1994 until 1 July 2013. It is a steel-tracked or straddle-beam monorail service with a 1-km long track, 5 working gondolas with an average speed of and 2 stations. Genting Highlands
Genting Highlands is a hill station located on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali in the Titiwangsa Mountains, central Peninsular Malaysia, at 1,800 metres elevation. Located in the state of Pahang. It was established in 1965 by the late Chinese businessman Lim Goh Tong. The primary tourist attraction is Resorts World Genting, a hill resort where casinos and theme parks are situated and gambling is allowed. History The idea to build a hill resort near the capital city of Kuala Lumpur came from a late Malaysian Chinese businessman, Lim Goh Tong who was inspired by the fresh air in Cameron Highlands during his business trip there in 1963 for a hydroelectric power project. The rationale was that Cameron Highlands was too far away from Kuala Lumpur, and therefore building a mountain resort nearer to Kuala Lumpur would have excellent business potential. A monorail (from "mono", meaning "one", and "rail") is a railway in which the track consists of a single rail or a beam. Colloquially, the term "monorail" is often used to describe any form of elevated rail or people mover. More accurately, the term refers to the style of track.The term "track" is used here for simplicity. Technically the monorail sits on or is suspended from a guideway containing a singular structure. Caterpillars ( ) are the larval stage of members of the order Lepidoptera (the insect order comprising butterflies and moths). Floriade is an international exhibition and garden festival, held every 10 years in the Netherlands.
