Gennevilliers
Gennevilliers () is a commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, in the Hauts-de-Seine department of Île-de-France. It is located from the centre of Paris. In 2017, it had a population of 46,907. History On 9 April 1929, one-fifth of the territory of Gennevilliers was detached and became the commune of Villeneuve-la-Garenne. Gennevilliers is the site of the main river port Port of Gennevilliers of Paris on the Seine. Population Transport Gennevilliers is served by three stations on Paris Métro Line 13: Les Courtilles, Les Agnettes and Gabriel Péri. All three are at the border with the commune of Asnières-sur-Seine. Les Courtilles (Paris Métro)
Les Courtilles () is the terminus of the northwestern branch of Line 13 of the Paris Métro. Location The station is located on the border of the municipalities of communes of Asnières-sur-Seine and Gennevilliers, at the intersection formed by the axis of the Avenue de la Redoute and Avenue Lucien-Lanternier on the one hand, and the axis Boulevard Pierre-de-Coubertin and Boulevard Intercommunal on the other hand. The name of each of these two towns can be found above the name of the station on the maps and in the station. History The station opened on 14 June 2008 upon completion of the extension of Line 13 from Gabriel Péri. Reversing sidings are provided to the north of the station for trains to change direction. Paris Métro Line 13
Paris Métro Line 13 (opened as Line B; French: ''Ligne 13 du métro de Paris'') is one of the sixteen lines of the Paris Métro. It was built by the Nord-Sud Company before becoming Line 13 when the Nord-Sud was merged into the Compagnie du chemin de fer métropolitain de Paris (CMP) in 1930. Line 13 was extended in 1976 to reach the northern end of Line 14, which was then absorbed into it. The number 14 was eventually reused for a new line in 1998. Line 13 was once planned to be replaced by a north–south RER line, but this was cancelled after the reorganisation of the Île-de-France region in 1965. Gabriel Péri (Paris Métro)
Gabriel Péri () is a station on Line 13 of the Paris Métro. Situated on the line's northwestern branch, it is located under the Rue des Bas on the border between the communes of Gennevilliers and Asnières-sur-Seine in Hauts-de-Seine. History The station opened on 3 May 1980 upon completion of the extension of Line 13 from Porte de Clichy; it was the terminal station until 14 June 2008 when the extension to Les Courtilles opened. At that time, its name was changed from Gabriel Péri–Asnières–Gennevilliers to its present name. The station honours journalist Gabriel Péri (1902–1941) who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies for Seine-et-Oise. He was shot by the Nazis because of his involvement in the French Resistance in World War II. The Port of Gennevilliers is the largest port in the Ile-de-France and the largest French river port. It is located in the commune of Gennevilliers in the north of the Hauts-de-Seine. The port is primarily a commercial port. It is an important delivery terminal for semi-finished non-perishable freight from lower-Seine (via Le Havre), and also for heavy materials carried by the French canal system. These items are mostly heavy, low value-added bulk materials: sand and gravel, cement, finished building materials (such as metal frames), packaging materials (paper, pallets) or certain dangerous chemicals. Thierry Vigneron (born 9 March 1960 in Gennevilliers, Hauts-de-Seine) is a retired French pole vaulter. In the 1980s, he was among the world's leading pole vaulters.
