''Genesis: In Concert'' is a 1977 concert film directed and produced by Tony Maylam for the English progressive rock band Genesis. The recording of the film took place during concerts in Glasgow, Scotland and Stafford, England in 1976. Background ''Genesis: In Concert'' documents the concert tour that Genesis embarked on in 1976, after their album '' A Trick of the Tail''. This was the first album on which Phil Collins assumed the duties of lead vocalist (following the departure of Peter Gabriel). On the album, Collins sings lead vocals and plays drums. But since Collins wanted to focus on his singing duties during live shows, Genesis brought in former Yes and King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford to play drums and percussion during this tour; however, Collins still played drums onstage for extended instrumental sections, codas or introductions of songs and instrumental compositions and he would often play percussion, notably tambourine, as well. Tony Maylam
Tony Maylam (born 1943) is a BAFTA-nominated English filmmaker, known for directing documentaries such as '' White Rock'', the 1979 thriller ''The Riddle of the Sands'', and horror films such as ''The Burning'' and '' Split Second.'' Life and career Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he began his career as an actor and then television presenter for ZDF Bermuda (''The Tony Maylam Show'') and the UK's ITV (''Sportsweek''), before concentrating solely on filmmaking. King Crimson
King Crimson are a progressive rock band formed in 1968 in London, England. "The Carpet Crawlers" is a song by the English progressive rock band Genesis, recorded for their sixth studio album ''The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway''. Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks wrote most of the music, with the help of Peter Gabriel. Lyrically, the song tells the section of the album's story whereby Rael, the lead character, finds himself in a red carpeted corridor surrounded by kneeling people slowly crawling towards a wooden door. Rael dashes by them towards the door and goes through it. Behind the door is a table with a candlelit feast on it, and behind that, a spiral staircase that leads upwards out of sight. "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" was the first charting single by the rock band Genesis. It was drawn from their 1973 album ''Selling England by the Pound''. The single was released in the UK in February 1974, and became a minor hit in April 1974, when it reached number 21 in the UK Singles Chart. Production The song's lyrics concern a young man, Jacob, who is employed as a groundsman and who says that he does not want to grow up and do great things, being perfectly happy where he is, pushing a lawn mower. Betty Swanwick's painting ''The Dream'', which was used for the ''Selling England'' album cover, alludes to the song; Swanwick added the mower to the original painting at the band's request. Silent Comedy
Silent comedy is a style of film, related to but distinct from mime, invented to bring comedy into the medium of film in the silent film era (1900s–1920s) before a synchronized soundtrack which could include talking was technologically available for the majority of films. Silent comedy is still practiced, albeit much less frequently, and it has influenced comedy in modern media as well. "Supper's Ready" is a song by the progressive rock band Genesis, recorded for their 1972 studio album '' Foxtrot''. At 23 minutes in length, it is the band's longest recorded song and almost takes up the entire second side of the vinyl. Frontman Peter Gabriel wrote the lyrics, which mainly describe a personal journey of scenes from the Book of Revelation and good versus evil, with several real life experiences providing further inspiration. The song took form in the summer of 1972, when Genesis dedicated time to write new songs after touring '' Nursery Cryme''. ''A Trick of the Tail'' is the seventh studio album by English progressive rock band Genesis. It was released in February 1976 on Charisma Records and was the first album to feature drummer Phil Collins as lead vocalist following the departure of Peter Gabriel. It was a critical and commercial success in the UK and U.S., reaching No. 3 and No. 31 respectively. Following Gabriel's decision to leave the band, the remaining members wanted to carry on and show they could still write and record successful material. The group wrote and rehearsed new songs during mid-1975, and listened to numerous audition tapes for a replacement frontman. The Apollo was a music venue at 126 Renfield Street in Glasgow city centre, Scotland. The Apollo operated from 5 September 1973 until closure on 16 June 1985 and was Glasgow's leading music venue during this period. The Apollo was a re-brand of the previous Green's Playhouse in the same building. History The Green family owned Green's Playhouse cinema at 126 Renfield Street. It was thought to be the largest cinema in Europe at the time but was in decline.
