Genesee Area Conference
The Genesee Area Conference (GAC) is a high school athletic conference in Genesee County, Michigan. It was original called the Genesee Eight Athletic Conference. Since 2002, the GAC operates with two divisions: Blue and Red. In 2019, all members of the red division left to join the Flint Metro League conference, leaving the GAC with only four teams. History The Genesee Eight Athletic Conference began in 1978 with three high schools from the Genesee County B League and five from the Mid-Eastern Eight Conference. Beginning in 1999, the Conference renamed itself to Genesee Area Conference with the addition of Genesee High School bring up the number of High Schools to ten. The Genesee Wolves also took the Football championship that year. With the 2002 football season, the GAC split the Conference into two divisions (Blue and Red) of six high schools with the addition of Mt. Morris and Lakeville High Schools. Athletic Conference
An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams, playing competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. Australian rules football The AFL Women's competition used a non-geographic conference system in 2019 and 2020. The league was divided into two conferences, based on ladder position in the previous season. Not every team could play each other due to the limited number of rounds, so conferences were introduced so that teams were only measured against the teams they played. The system was controversial because it allowed some weak teams to make finals, and strong teams from the other conference missed out on finals. High school Hamady High School is a public high school in the Westwood Heights School District in Mount Morris Township, just outside Flint, Michigan. Elementary school Colonel Donald McMonagle Elementary is a public elementary school in the Westwood Heights School District in Mount Morris Township, just outside Flint, Michigan. It was previously Westwood Elementary. In 2007, Westwood Elementary was renovated and merged with Hamady Elementary to form one elementary school. Montrose Community Schools
Montrose Community School District is a public school district in the northwestern corner of Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan and in the Genesee Intermediate School District. The District serves all of the city of Montrose and most of Montrose Township. According to the district's web site, in 2010 approximately 1400 students in 2016 were estimated to attend one of three schools in the district: Carter Elementary School for grades K-4 (600 students), Kuehn-Haven Middle School for grades 5-8 (400 students), Hill-McCloy High School for grades 9-12 (400 students).
