Mergenthaler Linotype Company
The Mergenthaler Linotype Company is a corporation founded in the United States in 1886 to market the Linotype machine (), a system to cast metal type in lines (linecaster) invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler. It became the world's leading manufacturer of book and newspaper typesetting equipment; outside North America, its only serious challenger for book typesetting was the Anglo-American Monotype Corporation. Starting in 1960, the Mergenthaler Linotype Company became a major supplier of phototypesetting equipment which included laser typesetters, typefonts, scanners, typesetting computers. In 1987, the US-based Mergenthaler Linotype Company became part of the German Linotype-Hell AG; in the US the company name changed to Linotype Co. FF Dax
FF Dax is a humanist sans-serif typeface designed by Hans Reichel, published by FontFont library. The typeface is popular in advertising and in marketing. It is a "spurless" sans-serif, similar to typefaces like Semplicità and some characters in Gill Sans, where strokes end without terminals. This gives it a modernist, abstract feeling, detached from handwriting principles. Other designs, Barmeno and Sari, more bulbous cousins of FF Dax, have also been designed by Reichel. In 2005 Hans Reichel reworked FF Dax into a cleaner, more mature text face called FF Daxline & FF Daxline Office Pro. Adoption FF Dax is widely adopted in several advertising materials, it is also used as a branding font by a few organisations and companies. Compatil
Compatil is a large typeface family designed for interchangeable fonts while maintaining identical document metrics. History The Compatil typefaces were developed from 1999 to 2001 at Mergenthaler Linotype Company, Linotype Library GmbH. The name was derived from the word "compatible" and represents an intelligent and modular type system. The project was led by Bruno Steinert, Managing Director of Linotype GmbH, Bad Homburg. Professor Olaf Leu and his analysis team at Mainz University of Applied Sciences composed an extensive range of requirements that Linotype Library’s team of experts incorporated into their new creation, extending and developing the concept as their work progressed. Silja Bilz and Professor Reinhard Haus were responsible for the project design and concept. On 2004-12-07, Linotype announced Compatil 6.0, which introduced italic fonts for all families.
