Generation Lost (song)
"Generation Lost" is a song by American hip hop recording artist B.o.B, taken from his fourth mixtape, ''Who the F%*k is B.o.B?'' (2008). The song, produced by B.o.B himself, was also included on B.o.B's then-Grand Hustle label-mate Killer Mike's compilation album, ''Underground Atlanta'' (2009). In November 2014, B.o.B released a politically-charged mixtape, titled ''New Black''. The mixtape, which is a cohesive concept album, includes "Generation Lost", as the third track. Background In an interview with '' Complex Magazine'', B.o.B acknowledged the irony that he was becoming famous, for doing anti-mainstream music and called it a "blend of both worlds". When asked about the song, B.o.B said: "I wasn't like, 'I need to make this song for radio.' In my world, I'm cool because I know there are fans of music who don't listen to the radio." Reception ''Complex Magazine'' listed "Generation Lost" as one of the "Key B.o.B Songs You Should Know." About.com Dotdash Meredith (for ...

Protest Songs
A protest song is a song that is associated with a movement for social change and hence part of the broader category of ''topical'' songs (or songs connected to current events). It may be folk, classical, or commercial in genre. Among social movements that have an associated body of songs are the abolition movement, prohibition, women's suffrage, the labour movement, the human rights movement, civil rights, the Native American rights movement, the Jewish rights movement, disability rights, the anti-war movement and 1960s counterculture, the feminist movement, the sexual revolution, the gay rights movement, animal rights movement, vegetarianism and veganism, gun control, drug control, tobacco control, and environmentalism. Protest songs are often situational, having been associated with a social movement through context. "Goodnight Irene", for example, acquired the aura of a protest song because it was written by Lead Belly, a black convict and social outcast, although on its ...

Songs About The Media
A song is a musical composition intended to be performed by the human voice. This is often done at distinct and fixed pitches (melodies) using patterns of sound and silence. Songs contain various forms, such as those including the repetition and variation of sections. Written words created specifically for music, or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in classical music it is an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs composed in a simple style that are learned informally "by ear" are often referred to as folk songs. Songs that are composed for professional singers who sell their recordings or live shows to the mass market are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are often composed by professional songwriters, composers, and lyricists. Art songs are composed by trained classical composers fo ...

Rockism
Rockism and poptimism are two ideological arguments about popular music prevalent in mainstream music journalism. Rockism is the belief that rock music is dependent on values such as authenticity and artfulness, and that such values elevate the genre over other forms of popular music. So-called "rockists" may promote the artifices stereotyped in rock music or may regard the genre as the normative state of popular music. Poptimism (or popism) is the belief that pop music is as worthy of professional critique and interest as rock music. Detractors of poptimism describe it as a counterpart of rockism that unfairly privileges the most famous or best-selling pop, hip hop, and R&B acts. The term "rockism" was coined in 1981 by English rock musician Pete Wylie. It soon became a pejorative used humorously by self-described "anti-rockist" music journalists. The term was not generally used beyond the music press until the mid 2000s, partly due to the increasing number of bloggers who ...
