Bradley Winslow
Bradley Winslow (August 1, 1831 – October 24, 1914) was an American soldier, politician and lawyer who served as colonel of the 186th New York Regiment from 1864 to 1865 during the American Civil War. Winslow was also a member of the New York State Senate in 1880, and mayor of Watertown, New York, in 1875. Winslow studied at various seminaries and colleges, and began studying to become a lawyer in 1853. He worked in various law firms until being elected district attorney of Jefferson County, New York in 1859. At the break of the civil war, he resigned as district attorney and volunteered in the Union Army. He fought in the Northern Virginia campaign in 1862 as a Lieutenant colonel (United States), lieutenant colonel, and was promoted to colonel in September 1864. During his time as colonel, he assisted the Union Army in capturing forts during the Siege of Petersburg, and was discharged in June 1865 after suffering a gunshot wound. Edward Francis Winslow
Edward Francis Winslow (September 28, 1837 – October 22, 1914) was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later railroad executive. Biography Early life Winslow was born September 28, 1837 in Augusta, Maine. In 1856 moved to Mount Pleasant, Iowa where he engaged in the mercantile business until the fall of 1861 when he enlisted into the 4th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. After the war he began his longtime career in the railroad industry as a railroad executive. Civil War When the Civil War began Winslow enlisted in the 4th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry as Captain of Company F. He was promoted to Major in 1863 and was wounded in a minor engagement at Twelve Mile Creek, Mississippi. He then participated in the siege of Vicksburg where he was posted to the rear of the siege lines to protect the army from Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate forces near Jackson, Mississippi. John Winslow (British Army Officer)
Major-General John Winslow (10 May 1703 – 17 April 1774), descendant of Edward Winslow, was an officer during the French and Indian War. John Winslow belonged to one of the most prominent families of New England; his great-grandfather Edward and grandfather Josiah Winslow had both been governors of the Plymouth Colony. He was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts in 1703 as son of Sarah and Isaac Winslow. (During Father Rale's War, Winslows older brother Josiah was given the command of Fort St. George (Thomaston, Maine) and was killed by natives of the Wabanaki Confederacy in the Northeast Coast Campaign (1724). The following year, Winslow named his first born after his deceased brother.) In 1725, he married Mary Little, a descendant of Richard Warren.
