The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyz Republic ( ky, Кыргыз Республикасынын Куралдуу Күчтөрүнүн Башкы штабынын, ''Kyrgyz Respublikasynyn Kuralduu Küçtörünün Başky ştabynyn'') is the military staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Chief of the General Staff is appointed by the President of Kyrgyzstan, who is the supreme commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Major General Erlis Terdikbayev. From 2014-2021, the Chief of the General Staff was the paramount leader of the armed forces, just second to the commander in chief. It is currently composed of the commanders of the Kyrgyz Army, Kyrgyz Air Force, Kyrgyzstan Frontier Force, and the Kyrgyz National Guard. Erlis Jekshenovich Terdikbayev ( ky, Эрлис Джекшенович Тердикбаев; born 27 May 1969) is a Kyrgyzstani General and the current Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan. Early life and education Erlis Terdikbayev was born on May 27, 1969 in the village of Issyk-Ata in the Chuy Region of the Kyrgyz SSR. He joined the Soviet Army in 1983, and graduated from the Alma-Ata Higher All-Arms Command School (now the Military Institute of the Kazakh Ground Forces) in 1990 after spending 4 years there as a cadet. Career He served in a regiment of the Soviet Army's Transcaucasian Military District from June 1990 to June 1992. Asanbek Tunguchpaevich Alymkozhoev (Kyrgyz: Асанбек Тунгучпаевич Алымкожоев; born 11 April 1956) is the former Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was also the commander of the National Guard of Kyrgyzstan from 2006 to 2009. and from 2013 to 2014. Early life and career He was born on 11 April 1956 in the village of Sorbon in the Chuy Region. Immediately after joining the Soviet Army in 1977, he commanded a reconnaissance platoon of the Central Asian Military District in the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. Alymkozhoev fought in the Soviet-Afghan War from 1979 to 1981, serving in a reconnaissance company. Abibilla Kudayberdiev ( Kyrgyz and Russian: Абибилла Кудайбердиев born June 1, 1962) is the former Minister of Defense of Kyrgyzstan. Biography He was born on June 1, 1962 in the Nookat District, in the city of Osh. In 1983, he graduated from the Alma-Ata Higher All-Arms Command School in the Kazakh SSR. Boris Alexandrovich Yugai (; ; 15 November 1957 - 12 March 2010) was a Kyrgyz Major General and military leader who served as the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff from March 2007 to June 2008 under President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Yugai was generally regarded as an important figure in the military, often enjoying strong support among military personnel. Esen Tolenovich Topoev ( ky, Эсен Толенович Топоев) is a Kyrgyz general and the former Minister of Defense of Kyrgyzstan. Career Soviet Army service He was born on 28 February 1952 in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya.
