General Nuisance
''General Nuisance'' (1941) is the ninth short subject starring Buster Keaton made for Columbia Pictures. Plot Aristocratic millionaire Peter Hedley Lamar Jr. (Buster Keaton) is entranced by army nurse Dorothy Appleby but her cohort Elsie Ames lets Lamar know that Dorothy is only interested in men in uniform. Lamar enlists to be near Dorothy, but Elsie tries to woo Lamar by singing a silly song to him (and Buster sings and dances!). Still interested in Dorothy, Lamar wounds himself to get under the care of Dorothy. Elsie is still after him, but Dorothy finally comes around after Lamar saves her life. Production This short is a reworking of Buster's 1930 feature ''Doughboys''. Jules White
Jules White (born Julius Weiss; hu, Weisz Gyula; 17 September 190030 April 1985) was a Hungarian-American film director and producer best known for his short-subject comedies starring The Three Stooges Early years White began working in motion pictures in the 1910s, as a child actor, for Pathé Studios. He appears in a small role as a Confederate soldier in the landmark silent feature ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915). By the 1920s his brother Jack White (film producer), Jack White had become a successful comedy producer at Educational Pictures, and Jules worked for him as a film editor. Jules became a film director, director in 1926, specializing in comedies such as The Battling Kangaroo (1926). In 1930 White and his boyhood friend Zion Myers moved to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio. ''Doughboys'' is a 1930 American Pre-Code comedy film starring Buster Keaton. It was Keaton's second starring talkie vehicle and has been called Keaton's "most successful sound Picture." A Spanish-language version was also made under the title, ''De Frente, Marchen.'' Plot Elmer ( Buster Keaton), a member of the idle rich, is smitten by working girl Mary (Sally Eilers), who will have nothing to do with him. When Elmer's chauffeur gets caught up in an army recruitment drive and quits, Elmer goes to an employment agency to find a new driver and accidentally enlists in the army.
