General Mills, Inc., is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of branded processed consumer foods sold through retail stores. Founded on the banks of the Mississippi River at Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis, the company originally gained fame for being a large flour miller. Lärabar
Lärabar is a brand of energy bars produced by General Mills. The bars come in a variety of flavors such as Apple Pie, Carrot Cake, Cinnamon Roll, and Mint Chip Brownie. History Lärabar was created by Denver native Lara Merriken, who was looking to make a "very healthy product that tasted delicious". According to the General Mills website, Merriken's inspiration for the snack occurred during a hiking trip in 2000 through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. As she was running down the mountain, she was inspired to create a food bar that was made out of only fruits, nuts and spices. The umlaut on the ä is decorative. Annie's Homegrown (or simply Annie's) is an American organic food company owned by General Mills. The company was founded in Hampton, Connecticut by Annie Withey and Andrew Martin, who had previously founded Smartfood popcorn along with Ken Meyers. It is best known for its macaroni and cheese product line, which comes in shell form and bunny rabbit shapes, and is the second best selling macaroni and cheese in the United States behind Kraft. Their mascot is a rabbit named Bernie, who appears in the seal of approval called the "Rabbit of Approval" and another slogan called "Bunny of Approval" in 2020. Saint Anthony Falls
Saint Anthony Falls, or the Falls of Saint Anthony ( dak, italics=no, Owámniyomni, ) located at the northeastern edge of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the only natural major waterfall on the Mississippi River. Throughout the mid-to-late 1800’s, various dams were built atop the east and west faces of the falls to support the milling industry that spurred the growth of the city of Minneapolis. In 1880, the central face of the falls was reinforced with a sloping timber apron to stop the upstream erosion of the falls. In the 1950s, the apron was rebuilt with concrete, which makes up the most visible portion of the falls today. James Ford Bell as a member of the Food Administration in 1918. James Ford Bell (August 16, 1879 – May 7, 1961) was an American business leader and philanthropist who served as president of General Mills from 1928 to 1934 and chairman from 1934 to 1948. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he moved with his family to Minneapolis, Minnesota. During World War I he was appointed by the Food and Drug Administration as chairman of the Milling Division. In 1918 he assisted Herbert Hoover's European Hunger Relief Mission and was awarded the Belgian Order of the Crown and membership in the French Legion of Honor. John Crosby (General Mills)
John Crosby III (November 1, 1828 – December 29, 1887) was an American businessman. Crosby was a founding partner of the Washburn-Crosby Company, the forerunner to General Mills. Career Born in Hampden to John II and Anne K. Stetson, Crosby became heavily involved in the family paper mill business, as well as an iron foundry and machine shop in nearby Bangor. He then moved to Minneapolis in 1877 and became involved in the milling industry there. Crosby purchased an interest in the Washburn "B" Mill, a predecessor to the Washburn "A" Mill, and developed a business partnership with Cadwallader C. Washburn, inventor of the middlings purifier, as well as a silent partnership with William Hood Dunwoody.
