General Luna, Surigao Del Norte
General Luna, officially the Municipality of General Luna ( Surigaonon: Lungsod nan General Luna; tl, Bayan ng Heneral Luna), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 22,853 people. Formerly known as Cabuntog, it is home to annual international and national surfing competitions because of the Cloud 9 waves. As a result, the town has the reputation as the "Surfing Capital of the Philippines." Geography General Luna is located east of Dapa and about from Surigao City. The islands of Anahawan, Daku, and La Januza are within the municipality's jurisdiction. The area is protected within the Siargao Islands Protected Landscapes and Seascapes (SIPLAS) under Republic Act 7586 (NIPAS Act). Typhoon Rai
Typhoon Rai, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Odette, was the second costliest typhoon in Philippine history behind Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Siargao Island
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 196 kilometers southeast of Tacloban. It has a land area of approximately . Surigaonon Language
Surigaonon is an Austronesian language spoken by Surigaonon people. As a regional Philippine language, it is spoken in the province of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, and some portions of Agusan del Norte, especially the towns near the Mainit Lake, Agusan del Sur and Davao Oriental. External relationships Surigaonon is a member of the Bisayan languages. It has been heavily influenced by Cebuano due to the influx of many Cebuanos in the region. However, most Cebuano speakers can hardly understand Surigaonon speakers, except for Cebuanos who have been living in the region for years.
