General Diamond Workers' Association Of Belgium
The General Diamond Workers' Association of Belgium ( nl, Algemene Diamantbewerkersbond van België, ADB; french: Syndicat des Ouvriers Diamantaires) was a trade union representing workers in the diamond trade in Belgium. The union was founded on 19 August 1895, as the Antwerp Diamond Workers' Association. It rapidly became one of the leading trade unions in the city. Unlike many unions, it did not affiliate to the Belgian Workers Party, although almost all of its leading members were active in the party. A group of members who wanted to work closely with the party split away in 1911, but after Louis Van Berckelaer was elected as leader of the ADB in 1912, he reunified the groups. The Belgian Labour Party ( nl, Belgische Werkliedenpartij, BWP; french: Parti ouvrier belge, POB) was the first major socialist party in Belgium. Founded in 1885, the party was officially disbanded in 1940 and superseded by the Belgian Socialist Party in 1945. Universal Alliance Of Diamond Workers
The Universal Alliance of Diamond Workers (UADW) was a small global union federation bringing together workers in the diamond polishing and jewellery making. History The federation was founded in Antwerp in 1905. Its aims were to provide information on the industrial and social situations relevant to its members, and to conduct its own research. In its early years, the federation grew, representing 22,700 workers by 1913. But this gradually declined; by 1982, the federation had affiliates in Belgium, France, Israel, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, but they represented a total of only 10,100 members, making it by far the smallest global union federation. The General Labour Federation of Belgium (french: Fédération Générale du Travail de Belgique, or FGTB; nl, Algemeen Belgisch Vakverbond, ABVV) is a socialist national trade union federation in Belgium. It was founded in 1945. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation and has a membership of 1.5 million. With said membership the ABVV/FGTB is the second largest of the three major trade unions in Belgium, closely following the Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (ACV/CSC) which has 1.6 million members and dwarfing the General Confederation of Liberal Trade Unions of Belgium (ACLVB/CGSLB) which has approximately 300,000 members. The Union of Belgian Textile Workers ( nl, Textielarbeiderscentrale van België, TACB; french: Centrale des Ouvriers Textiles de Belgique, COTB) was a trade union representing workers in the textile trades in Belgium. The union was founded in 1898 as the National Textile Workers' Association of Belgium, linked to the Belgian Workers Party. In 1908, it became the Textile Workers Center of Belgium, with the wool workers federation of Verviers joining. However, after World War I, the Flemish leadership decided to centralise the union, and the Verviers federation left, only rejoining in 1935. In 1945, the union was a founding constituent of the General Federation of Belgian Labour. The Union of Clothing Workers and Kindred Trades in Belgium ( nl, Centrale der Kleding en Aanverwante Vakken van België, CKAVB; french: Centrale du Vêtement et Parties Similaires de Belgique, CVPS) was a trade union representing workers in the clothing industry in Belgium. The union was founded on 16 March 1919, with the merger of the unions of tailors, tailors' cutters, hat makers, fur workers, linen workers and dyers. For many years, it had the lowest level of unionisation of any industry in Belgium: 4.5% in 1933. From 1920, the union was led by Frans Liebaers, who was a member of the Belgian Workers Party. The union was founded in 1994, when the Union of Belgian Textile Workers merged with the Union of Clothing Workers and Kindred Trades in Belgium and the General Diamond Workers' Association of Belgium. By 1995, the union had 48,868 members, of whom 90% worked in clothing and textiles, and the remaining 10% in the diamond industry.
