Gene Hatcher
Ronald Hatcher Jr. (born June 28, 1959 in Fort Worth, Texas), better known as Gene Hatcher, is a former boxer who was world light welterweight champion. His nickname was "Mad Dog." Amateur career Hatcher was a United States Amateur Champion. In 1980 he became National AAU Welterweight Champion. Early professional career His most notable early win came against former WBC super featherweight champion Alfredo Escalera in 1982, when he won a ten-round decision. His next notable opponent, Tyrone Crawley, defeated him by a ten-round decision. He followed that with a rematch in 1983 with Escalera. In that fight, Hatcher was dropped in round six and subsequently lost a unanimous ten-round decision. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds. The first champion of this weight class was Pinky Mitchell in 1946, though he was only awarded his championship by a vote of the readers of the ''Boxing Blade'' magazine. Ubaldo Néstor Sacco (28 July 1955 – 28 May 1997) was an Argentine professional boxer who held the world junior welterweight title from 1985 to 1986. Professional career Known as "Uby", Sacco turned pro in 1978 and won the World Boxing Association light welterweight title by TKO over Gene Hatcher in 1985. Dave "Davey" Hilton Jr. (born December 9, 1963) is a Canadian former boxing world champion. He is the older brother of former light middleweight world champion of boxing, Matthew Hilton. Professional boxing career He briefly held the WBC super middleweight title after defeating Dingaan Thobela in December 2000, but shortly thereafter, the WBC stripped it from him after child molestation charges were leveled against him.
