Gelliehausen is a nucleated village just south of Benniehausen in the Gemeinde Gleichen in southern Lower Saxony with a population of 452 (as of 12 December 2005). The village is located at the foot of the twin hills called the Gleichen. The small community has a pond next to its "''Bürgerhaus''." The mayor is Gerhard Nolte. The most famous person associated with Gelliehausen is Gottfried August Bürger Gottfried August Bürger (31 December 1747 – 8 June 1794) was a German poet. His ballads were very popular in Germany. Gleichen, Lower Saxony
Gleichen is a municipality (in this case, a '' Gemeinde'') in the district of Göttingen, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Named after the two castles, Neuen-Gleichen and Alten-Gleichen on the twin peaks in the ''Gemeinde'', it is situated about 10 km southeast of Göttingen, from which the peaks are visible. Its seat is Reinhausen. Location The municipality of Gleichen is located southeast of Göttingen, west-southwest of Duderstadt and north-northwest of Heilbad Heiligenstadt. The River Garte flows through several of the villages in the municipality, as does the small Wendebach stream, which is impounded by the Wendebach Reservoir. Both streams are right, eastern tributaries of the Leine. In the center of the municipality are Die Gleichen, a pair of hills 430 m high, that rise between Appenrode, Bettenrode and Gelliehausen. A nucleated village, or clustered settlement, is one of the main types of settlement pattern. It is one of the terms used by geographers and landscape historians to classify settlements. It is most accurate with regard to planned settlements: its concept is one in which the houses, even most farmhouses within the entire associated area of land, such as a parish, cluster around a central church, which is close to the village green. Other focal points can be substituted depending on cultures and location, such as a commercial square, circus, crescent, a railway station, park or a sports stadium. Benniehausen
Benniehausen is a village in the Gemeinde Gleichen in southern Lower Saxony. The village of 349 residents (in 2010) is located in the Gartetal on the old trade route between Göttingen and Duderstadt Duderstadt () is a city in southern Lower Saxony, Germany, located in the district of Göttingen. Lower Saxony
Lower Saxony (german: Niedersachsen ; nds, Neddersassen; stq, Läichsaksen) is a German state (') in northwestern Germany. Gottfried August Bürger
Gottfried August Bürger (31 December 1747 – 8 June 1794) was a German poet. His ballads were very popular in Germany. His most noted ballad, '' Lenore'', found an audience beyond readers of the German language in an English and Russian adaptation and a French translation. Biography He was born in Molmerswende (now a part of Mansfeld), Principality of Halberstadt, where his father was the Lutheran pastor. He showed an early predilection for solitary and gloomy places and the making of verses, for which he had no other model than hymnals. At the age of twelve, Bürger was practically adopted by his maternal grandfather, Bauer, at Aschersleben, who sent him to the Pädagogium at Halle. He learned Latin with difficulty. In 1764, he gained admission into the University of Halle as a student of theology, which, however, he soon abandoned for the study of jurisprudence.
